The book was pretty neutral if you take into consideration it is a fictional place on a fictional planet 😃 .

I would like to see the movie but might wait until it comes out on DVD.

Ok I have never read the books. I saw a couple trailers and since there were dragons I just think that dragons=evil lol

I’ve read the books. I have never seen anything that would be contrary to our faith. I personally like the books.

As soon as somebody watches the movie can you post here and give your opinion? Thanks!

I just got done reading both books, Eragon & Eldest. While the first book isn’t really contrary to our faith the second one goes deep into magic. There’s one time while the boy is being instructed and he asks if there’s an afterlife of what the elves believe in. The answer is no and no. No afterlife, when we die we no longer exist and there’s nothing greater than the magic they control. Now, while the elf says this he is also saying that its as far as he knows. Like, “well, as far as I know there’s no God.” The boy is confused because the whole world believes in a higher being and these higher beings, (elves) don’t believe in anything greater than the magic they control.

I think the books are really ideas form other works of fiction. The biggest “idea” (for lack of a better word) is from Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. Even the names come close to the names in his books. The other “idea” is from the Star Wars series where the magic is pretty close to the “force.”

I’d like to talk more about the books if anybody else has read them.

I watched the movie and found it highly entertaining. It made a great date movie, with a nice mixture of action, effects and romance (specifically, little romance)😃 .

I know nothing about the movie, but there’s an interesting thread about the book here.

Does anybody know if this movie is against the Faith?
CLICK HERE for Ted Baehr’s review.

I did not personally notice anything in the movie that was contrary to the faith. They support virtue. Although there is magic and an evil wizard possessed by demons, they don’t encourage the use of magic. They even say that it must be the very last resort.

I definitely noticed many similarities between this movie and LOTR, but it is still a good film. I would recommend it. :twocents:

The books are pretty typical 3-4 th generation removed from LOTR influence–with Dragonheart & Dragonriders of Pern, and Star Wars thrown in for good mesure. Hardly any modern fantasy writer actually reads the source material Tolkien, Lewis, DeCamp & Pratt, and others of the 1940s & 50’s delved into (Viking Eddas, stc…)–which is why the current fantasy works are progressly weaker and more derivitive

Did anyone else think that the Shade looked A LOT like Grima Wormtongue from LOTR?

Hi Everyone!
Code:
I read the books and watched the movie. The movie was pretty good, movie itself was a little rushed and since they cut so many characters and important scenes, I have no idea how they're going to do a sequel. I think the Elves are really annoying
and if Durza can be posessed by evil spirits then why can’t there be something powerful and good out there. But since the great and wise elves don’t believe in it there must not be one
Any way the movie was good and I liked it a lot.

It is not against the faith, but it is dull and not worth watching. You might as well see The Lord of the Rings, which I also found dull by the way.
