Establishing Freedom as a Starting Point
It is well to begin the decision making process by trying to become freer. What is freedom? Freedom is very different from license.
We are adviced to seek liberation from the passions that dwell within us. Only a passion can overcome another passion.
Our call is to choose agape and not death, the most terrible tragedy in our lives would be to be away from God. We have to face our supreme values. If Jesus Christ is our supreme value He will be our greatest passion. Only this passionate love can mobilise us, increase our strength, and overcome other passions. Everything else is put in the right perspective and takes on its proper dimensions. Our love for others makes it easier to accept the sacrifice for others.
-Our spontaneous attractions and dislikes can hide a positive call. We need to get some distance from our impulses. Love must become our preferences. Nothing is too small, too unimportant. Everything is an equal opportunity for showing love. If we love enough to want Love manifested, recognized, and accepted, it is given expression to our actions, and the clarity of our acts depends on the lucidity of our discernment.
Through reflection and prayer, we begin working on our affectivity so that we can free ourselves of the emotional charge of the issue we face that stirs us the strength of our emotions, which can take control of us without our consent.
-Perfect balance–It really doesn’t matter as long as I am with the Lord. This is Ignatian Indifference.
“The road or that one, it does not matter to me, as long as I am i Agape. I am just waiting or a signal and I’ll go.” When I am free enough to say this the discernment can begin and discern the signs my intellect and my affectivity will give me.
Questions *You can answer these privately
-In what sector of my life is the Lord calling me to greater freedom? Concerning what? Concerning whom?
-What are the signs that are showing me whether I am growing more or less indifferent?
-What means am I using to maintain my inner freedom all along the way in my current discernment? Who usually is my “Devil’s Advocate”?
