From the eminent voices of biotechnology (okay, mostly just Ribozyme :p) I keep hearing wonderful manifestos about re-engineering the human genome/body in such a way that we could free ourselves from the demented misery of the insensitive, heartless, and indifferent forces of evolution which have caused our species so much emotional misery since the dawn of dawns!

So, I thought I’d dedicate a thread to debating a couple of the minor questions that usually come up with this topic, namely…

What does hedonism entail?

What sort of emotions truly constitute “good feelings”?

If we’re happy all the time, what will motivate us to get off our butts when an asteroid’s coming?

Will we be sad about anything?

Would we still appreciate and love things like “Hotel California”, “Stairway to Heaven”, and nearly anything by Jim Croce 👍even if such things aren’t about HAPPYHAPPYHAPPY yet are still pretty darn good?

Would it be pleasurable to fall off bicycles?

Would we be too preoccupied with falling off bicycles to eat our spinach?

How will we re-engineer the brain without unintended consequences?

This obviously means everyone’s gonna have to turn atheist, right?

Is life really so bad now?

How will the economy function?

Or in other words:

***WHAT *THE HECK?

*HOW *THE HECK?

AND: ARE YOU SAYING WE’RE IN HECK?

Keep in mind, I’m very open to the possibility of Ethereal Earthly Ecstasy (high school sucks you know ) but I think it’s pertinent that it be discussed, especially among religious people.

Well, this has certainly reached nowhere faster than I would have expected, so I thought I’d chime in:

Is a transhumanistic, painless state the ultimate goal of humanity? :o

Bio-what? In my day it was called drugs, but we realized that there is something we need even more than happiness, and that’s reality, or truth. Well, some of us did. Others are still getting high and some are just strung out and sick or dead. Being engineered to be happier than it makes sense to be would be like being high: Fun, but that doesn’t mean good. We don’t exist for our own enjoyment only, but to please God and know what is true. Fun is a side effect. It’s not meant to be forever until we get to Heaven.

You know, this thread’s not really gonna work without Ribozyme (who actually *knows *about all this crazy stuff:()

:crying: :crying: :crying: RIhhhhBOhhhh!!! :crying: :crying: :crying:
