Is there such a thing as ethical exploitation? And if so, who has the right to exploit what?

It is easy to find what is “wrong” in the eyes of the beholder. Or what is observed as unethical in what others do. Nothing is accomplished in that.

Exploitation is required. Or we don’t eat if we do not exploit the know how, the ground, the water, to produce living things to sustain ourselves in human existence. Or stay warm, or stay sheltered, or protect ourselves from those who seek to take what we have.

Therefore there must be such a thing as ethical exploitation. Or man is doomed to do “wrong” or incorrectly, no matter what he does with his hands.

I think if something is “fair use” it’s not exploitation. To me, exploitation by definition is the unfair or selfish use of something or someone.

God provides these things for our survival and well being,we are to use all with care and good intentions. as for your question I do not think there is any thing ethical about exploiting any thing.:shrug:Carlan

Depends on what the word exploit means. In the sense you use it towards the end, it nearly seems to mean “use.”

In the sense that most people use it now, it means “use with no respect for, and with the effect of causing grave harm to, the thing/class of things being used.”

Since all things are from God, any use which does not respect this is bad. However, it is permissible for us to use many things, so long as we do so with the respect those things, as creations of God, deserve.

Consider: does God the Father have right to require your life? And if one is a member of God’s Kingdom under Jesus Christ who is King. Then does the King have the right to exploit his subjects? For the profit of the Kingdom, the well bing of the Household, and the Glory of God.

I mean no one has no problem, as an employee, with being exploited for the profit of a fast food joint, suffering the attitudes and demeanor of dedicated consumers for the receiving of moneys?

And consider, doesn’t the managers of this site exploit the internet and other parts and services to reach out in it’s cause? Hence man has right to exploit, and it is given to use in the Name of the King to be exploited and exploit that which is at our hands to the Glory of God and the Profit of the King’s Kingdom.

Though it can mean both, but isn’t God that knows that it is He, that is good for us?

OED:…
  1. The action of exploiting or turning to account; productive working or profitable management (of mines, cattle, etc.). Also, an instance of this.
b. The action of turning to account for selfish purposes, using for one’s own profit.

Exploitation in and of itself, may not be necessarily “bad”, if there be ethical exploitation. I mean, “turning to account”, isn’t this something the Lord does? Or “profitable management” to the Glory of God and Profit of the Kingdom. You know, bear fruits.

In other words if there be unethical exploitation then there must be ethical exploitation. And if the world doesn’t understand ethical exploitation it can only understand unethical exploitation, because it’s always being told it’s exploitations are unethical. In the preconceived notion that all exploitation is unethical.

I would have a problem if my employer exploited me. I would not willingly work at a place where I was not paid a fair wage and treated in a dignified manner by my employers.

If I am working there and feel I am fairly paid and treated well, they are not exploiting me, they are employing me!

the original definition of exploitation in the OED:…
  1. The action of exploiting or turning to account; productive working or profitable management (of mines, cattle, etc.). Also, an instance of this.
b. The action of turning to account for selfish purposes, using for one’s own profit.

Therefore exploitation is not intrinsically evil, according to the action of exploiting or turning to account; productive working or profitable management. If one seeks employment from an employer then one seeks to exploit what one can do or has, to exploit the employer’s perceived need or want, in the employer’s desire to maintain exploitation of the needs or wants of others for profit. By exploiting the means services products skill sets, the employer has a his disposal to exploit.

But to be done ethically, it is by agreement, and full disclosure of that agreement, to all parties that come into agreement. And the trust of the fulfillment of the agreement. Hence ignorance of the agreement is no excuse. But can be forgiven.
