Our church would like to update our large yard nativity set from that of a blond haired, blue eyed family to that of a family with similar features of a Middle Eastern region. I am struggling to find this option available for sale. I would appreciate any leads. Many thanks!

This is just an assumption, but I know that Middle Eastern Christians make a lot of icons. I bought one of their rosaries once. I would assume that the people in a creche they make would look authentic. IDK if you could get one in time, though. Maybe from a dealer who’s already here so you don’t have to wait on shipping. Hope it helps; good luck to you!

If you’re in USA, then searching on “African American Nativity” or “Black Nativity” tends to bring up what you want. CatholicSupply.com has an outdoor Mary, Joseph and Jesus of this type but they cost a few hundred dollars.

You make the assumption that no Middle Eastern people look like that. It depends, Middle East, being where it is, is actually quite diverse. Admittedly, Jesus and family probably didn’t look like that, but Europeans at that time probably didn’t look like they do now, either. I get what you are saying though, I just love putting in my two cents 😛

Once upon a time, I remember a coworker who insisted Cleopatra was black. I told him, “Cleopatra was a Ptolemy! The Ptolemies were Greeks!” 😛

The ethnic outdoor nativity scenes I’m seeing run around $4300 here (on sale from $5k!). This one goes for $3k– it’s not as swarthy/dark-skinned as the first one, but is more Caucasian-brunette.

What sort of budget do you have for your outdoor nativity scene?

I could be waaay off base, but it seems like it would be more accurate to get a set that looks Jewish?

🤔

I would also suggest painting what you have already if it is still in good condition otherwise.

Neither do “middle easterners”. So it seems odd to specify that instead of Jewish, which is what Jesus in his family are.
