Buenos día a todo (Good day to all),

I may go to the Catedral Nueva during the World Youth Day event. Do you think it’s acceptable to take pictures in the Cathedral? is it ever permissible to take pictures in a Cathedral/of the Blessed Sacrament. I’ve seen others doing this at another Cathedral, but I’m not really sure whether it’s okay or not.

Gracias. Dios los bendiga (God bless you)

Usually it is perfectly fine…if they do not want you to they will post a sign etc near the door usually.

Just use prudence…and of course reverence (like genuflecting when passing in front of the Blessed Sacrament)

If it is not allowed, there will be signs. Sometimes there will be signs that say you cannot use a flash.

have fun!

Also, use prudent judgment when taking photos, if they are not prohibited.

Taking photos during Mass or Adoration is a no-no. Your actions (even with the sound of the camera/phone off) distracts worship.

Also, do not enter the altar area without permission of the pastor.

It depends. There should be signs posted at the entrance saying if you can or can’t take pictures.

Now if you can disable your flash that would be better. The light from flash bulbs (or whatever they have now in digital cameras and / or cell phones) can cause damage to fragile art works inside churches.

Just make sure you don’t do it during Mass-that would be very rude! 😉 Not only to those around you, but it would also be disrespectful towards Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.

And you don’t want to be looked down at as an ‘ugly tourist’…:o

I disbelieve this. Do you have a source to cite? Flash bulbs are no longer noxious chemical explosions, they are simply brief bright lights. If an object is not exposed to thousands of flashes per day, say, the Mona Lisa, I fail to see where any damage will be done.

The main effect of flash photography is to annoy others in the vicinity, and this is frequently the reason it is discouraged.

It’s nOt any noxious chemistry, but simply the intensity of the light, that would damage the art. It flash were not discouraged, everybody’d use it, and those who protect the
art work don’t want that. Especially at a WYD, where you will have hordes there.

I’ve been to this cathedral. It’s awesomely baeutiful and photography is not discouraged. However, photographing the Eucharistic host is a no-no. Photos are not allowed in the eucharistic chapel.

Also, one should not photograph persons without their consent, IMO, Try to direct your shots so that you do not disturb or distract anybody.
