** Acts 7:48-49 ESV**
(48) Yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made by hands, as the prophet says,
(49) "'Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord, or what is the place of my rest?

1 Corinthians 3:16
(16) Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?

Hi, I’m really close to accepting Catholicism. Can someone tell me how the above verses correspond to Eucharistic Adoration? Thank you.

Hi Robert,

I haven’t had the pleasure of welcoming you to the forums yet, so first welcome. I hope your time here is fruitful.

I think you might find some interesting insights into Eucharistic Adoration, and the Eucharist in general in this thread as other posters contribute.

Perhaps it might be helpful if you start with any concerns you might have about the passages in relation to the Eucharist? Do you wonder if they somehow contradict the Catholic practice of Eucharistic adoration?

Thanks, God bless,

VC

Be careful not to misinterpret this passage. When it says “the Most HIgh does not dwell in houses made by hands” it is referring back to verse 41 " And they made a calf in those days, and offered a sacrifice to the idol and rejoiced in the work of their hands"
Remember this entire passage is from the Deacon Stephen to the Jewish Council. He is saying that God is everywhere and the Jews should not consider God to be only in the Jewish Temple. Stephen is saying that the true religion can exist outside the Temple and he should not be considered to be speaking blasphemy. Of course they did not accept his profession of faith and they had him stoned to death.

I don’t think that this passage has anything to do with Eucharistic adoration… If you have come to believe that only the Catholic Church has the Real Presence of Christ and that Christ is truly present in the Eucharist then you should want to be with Him. The one hour of adoration is based upon the scripture account of Christ’s last moments before being arrested.
Mark 14:37 " And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep?” Could you not watch one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation, the spirit is indeed willing, but the flesh is weak"

  1. Adoration hasn’t been around since the beginning, it began most likely in the 500s.
  2. If you believe in the Real Prescence, then adoration is no biggie. (this is my body, etc)
I love adoration. God really speaks to us in the silence of the adoration chapel. I like to think of it as sitting down in a living room with Christ and just spending time staring into each others eyes. :heaven:

Being in adoration is like the closest thing to receviing the Eucharist I an think of. You should try it out!

Adoration has existed from the beginning, but the formal practices developed the more as time went by.

These verses… seem to be to both have something to do with, and not at the same time. I can think of ways they relate and ways they would not. God made His scriptures to have multiple meanings to guide us to Him in different deep ways, along the same one path.

Eucharistic Adoration… has such immensity to it… It is the life changer, the entire afterlife changing, of a man’s life.

Engage in it. Everyone.

Well, my concern is that the Eucharist us usually out for adoration 24 (right?). I just want to know how this blends with the verse, because the verse says that the Lord doesn’t dwell in buildings made by man, yet, a parish is made by man and the Lord supposedly dwells in it. 🤷

Jesus is always in the Tabernacle… it does not mean He’s not in Heaven, - He’s present in both

I think you’re taking the verse out of context, and looking at it in isolation. If you believe in the Eucharist, of course He is present in churches… but that verse addressed to the Jews, and saying that God is everywhere… it’s true that He’s everywhere, but the Eucharist is also true

try to put the passages together, that’s 'the right way to read the Bible…every verse relates to other verses

If you take it in the strict sense, they contradict each other. If God is everywhere yet does not dwell in buildings… contradiction.

The Church teaches God’s ‘being everywhere’ is in different senses. He is not everywhere in the same way. In the Eucharist He is truly and fully present, in a way He is not elsewhere. There is some good info in the Catholic Encyclopedia on the subject of his presence everywhere I believe, which if taken in the wrong sense can be heresy if I recall correctly (i.e. fully truly everywhere).

The Douay Bible says:

But Solomon built him a house. Yet the most High dwelleth not in houses made by hands, as the prophet saith: Heaven is my throne, and the earth my footstool. What house will you build me? saith the Lord; or what is the place of my resting? Hath not my hand made all these things?

48 “Dwelleth not in houses”… That is, so as to stand in need of earthly dwellings, or to be contained, or circumscribed by them. Though, otherwise by his immense divinity, he is in our houses; and every where else; and Christ in his humanity dwelt in houses; and is now on our altars.
