I know the teaching of Transubstantiation that the accidents remain (hence someone with celiac disease should be careful). And there are extraordinary cases where people have survived on the Eucharist alone.

However under normal circumstances for the average person, does the Eucharist affect us on more than just a grace/spiritual level?

I’ve no idea.

Our natural, human bodies are wonderfully complex, and medicine hasn’t studied them in connection with the Blessed Sacrament.

I am the last person you would ask for evidence about this.

I have some kind of block where I have an incredibly hard time figuring out cause and effect between what I ingest and how it affects my body. The medicine I take probably has twice as many side effects as the ones I have noticed. The food I eat sometimes upsets my digestion, but it seems to be totally random and I can never predict with accuracy how I will feel after I eat any given dish.

So if the Eucharist affects me on some level besides the intangible and spiritual, it is a total secret to me.

Interesting — don’t really know the answer, but the Lord certainly invites us to find out.

Taste and see that the LORD is good

Personally in reply to your question [last paragraph], I would answer yes.
