I generally don’t think so. While I cannot tell what each individual Christian might think, I am of the opinion that the ordinances have a high value in Baptist churches.I think his view of the two sacraments (ordinance) is too low since he is quite Baptist in his view. Do you think Baptist tend to have too low of a view in regards to communion and baptism?
We do know that they are not magical formulas to get someone into heaven and that is where some might say we take away from the meaning… We do not attach any greater spiritual effect to the ordinance itself. We do however value them greatly. Once we are saved we are getting baptized in obedience to the Lord’s command and as followers of Jesus Christ. We were Christians before that so that the baptism is an outward sign of an inward change. Still it is important to us. All the members of our church are baptized or simply too young.
Those who are members may also partake in the Lord’s Supper. The implications of partaking it while not worthy are grave and we know that. There is certainly a high value placed on this and the gravity is emphasizing it.
I just recently joined this church and I consider myself a Christian attending a Baptist church. I was baptized at a military chapel which is accepted by most denominations.
As I wasn’t raised in this church I cannot fully speak for one or the other denomination apart from the little knowledge I have.
I do know however that the ordinances are not depreciated.
My church partakes in the Lord’s Supper only every second month. That might seem rather strange or even horrible to some who partake more frequently, but it does not indicate a depreciation either. I am of the opinion that there is more than one way to have a regular participation, be it now every day, once a week or over a more stretched out period of time as in many Protestant denominations. May every Sunday be special or may we look forward to the first Sunday of every second month because it is so immensely special.
We are slaves of Jesus Christ. Where there is a direct command we obey and where there is no direct command we try to please Him. May we all do it in our own way and may we all be pleasing towards our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
