If the OP experienced an ‘explosion’ perhaps he should look into whether the hosts used in his parish are valid material.

No they are. I got a jagged one and the priest put it into my hand in a rather ungentle manner, thus causing the rupture. The hosts are so brittle that they kind of shatter into many little pieces

I receive on my tongue, I am fairly young, no one else in my age group attends Mass on a weekly or regular basis, so I already stick out like a sore thumb…lol…I try not to care what others think, I am a very self-conscious person, when I find myself walking up to Communion, and feeling like I am worried about what others think, I focus on Jesus and how much I love him and I try to not care so much what others think, I receive on the tongue, my personal choice, my right to do so, and I like it that way, I have my own interior reasons why I like to receive on my tongue, but to avoid any criticism, I’ll keep my reasons to myself, one I will share would be that I don’t want any crumbs of Jesus to fall on the ground, when I serve Mass I make sure to be so very careful when “cleaning up” I have a God given gift of extreme faith and love and trust of Jesus truly present in the Eucharist, body blood soul and divinity, and I meditate on that during Mass, which causes me to be very careful around the consecrated host, I hope I don’t sound like a wierdo here lol but that is just how I feel.

Take comfort in knowing it the ‘explosion’ was contained in your hand - it could have left bits of Jesus all over your face and chest if you had received on the tongue.
??? I’ve never heard of such a thing. Are you serious or joking? When you receive on the tongue, you’re supposed to close your mouth after receiving.

If anyone were to question me why I receive the host on the tongue or on the mouth I think I would simply say, “I am surprised that you are even aware of my decision. I am not aware of your choice in this matter.”

If I am concentrating on Mass, I can’t see how or why I could be aware of other people and how they receive communion.

There must be alot of people out there who have nothing better to do that to watch and judge others.

Not really hard to notice, really, when the person in front pokes their butt in your direction because they dropped the Eucharist from their hand and are bending over to retrieve.

One can’t time explosions all the time - it could be stuck on the tongue in an ungentle manner and POOF !! all over the place.

Our Priest has encouraged in the past for us to recieve on the toungue. When I was growing up we were taught to recieve in the hand, now that I am older (and wiser I hope!LOL) I recieve on the tounge and does my dh and dd. I taught dd from the get go to recieve on the toungue, so that is all that she knows! I find it odd I guess that there are priests that prefer the hand.

Im new recently back too, and I recieve on the tongue, and kneel! If these people are in such a hurry, They need catechesis!! This is Jesus!!! It is not symbolic and alot of people forget! and like you said, when you get the jaggedy ones in your hand it’s scary!!!And dirty looks at Church are lame too! Its called Communion. Uniting in community through Jesus. I keep my hands in prayer during the Our Father also. and get dirty looks too.
