Would like to know where in the Bible I can find the answer to a family member who is interested in returning to the Catholic Church. She was baptized as a child and moved to a non-denominational church. She left her non-denominational church and has been attending a Catholic Church and would like to received the Eucharist. Why can’t she received the Eucharist? Her argument, if we truly believe the Eucharist is the Body & Blood, Jesus wouldn’t deny us. Please help me understand so I can educated her.

Dear friend,

If she hasn’t received her first Holy Communion, she needs to be instructed regarding what we as Catholics believe about the Eucharist and that we need to be free of mortal sin to receive it. So she also needs to be instructed about the sacrament of Penance (Confession) and how to receive this sacrament as well. Once she has been instructed to the satisfaction of those in charge of religious instruction at her parish, then she certainly may receive the Eucharist in the Catholic Church.
