Eucharist - Early Martyrs

I often hear it said by many popular Catholic Apologists (Allen Hunt would be one) that early Christians were martyred for believing that the Eucharist was the body and blood of Jesus Christ. But in all my readings I have never come across any such references. Now I know they were martyred and I know they celebrated the Eucharistic meal. But I never came across anything that was ever written by the early Church Fathers that gave reference to them being killed for their stance on Eucharistic teaching alone. Does anybody have any sources to help me out with?

There is a famous saint called Tarcisius, a 12 year old boy who was taking the Sacrament to the sick. A pagan boy noticed Tarcisius was clutching his shirt suspiciously, so he began to ask him what he was hiding. Eventually a furor developed, because they thought he had stolen something. He was just trying to protect the Body of Christ. He was killed once they found out he was One Of Them.

A lot of martyr stories are legendary, of course. Go by the Scriptures & Church teaching - base your faith on those pronouncements, and not on potential myths.

All the early Christians believed that they were receiving the body and blood of Christ. there were no Christians that did not believe in transubstantiation. Many Christians were killed/martyred. Pagans did not split hairs about whether they would be killed for any one belief. It seems that you are splitting hairs here.

Martyred or persecuted?

Pagan Romans in the 2nd or 3rd century suspected the early Christians of cannibalism and/or vampirism, or at least made that comparison (cf. Minucius Felix, Octavius ch. 9). You can see how such rumors would start, given the secrecy of Christians under persecution, and the words of our Lord about eating his flesh and drinking his blood.

I’d like to know, too, if Christians were martyred specifically for this, but given the above, one can imagine such charges being brought up at the time of their martyrdom.

Like so many other things that are not spelled out; the Eucharist has from its inception by Christ been recoginized by those with TRUE FAITH; [a singular thing] and its natural fruits of Wisdon; KInowledge and Understanding, and a clear and firm belief in “The Real Presence;” thus the repeated references to “the Breaking of THE Bread in the bible.” Nothing else would make simply breaking bread for supper SIGNIFIANT. So acceptance and knowledge of Who and WHAT the Eucharisted Bread was and Is provided sufficient GRACE for many to become martyars.

What else dear friend would have been worth dying for? Especially is such vicious and barbaric ways? Faith alone? perhaps? BUT KNOWING it IS God; yes that is sufficient motive then and even now.
