I don’t know the proper name of this part of the celebration, but in the whole period between the prayers of the faithful and the distribution of communion, is there supposed to be a part of the prayer that prays for the pope, the local bishop and the clergy? I thought there was and I expected it to be there, but this weekend it wasn’t.
It may have been missing in the past, but I was listening for it this weekend to see how the priest modified the prayer to handle the fact that we had no pope that day. But he seemed to skip that part and go straight to whatever was next.
Is that OK, or does that need to be in there? Are there ‘varieties’ of the whole ritual that include and exclude various parts?
