Eucharist quesiton that will happen next year

Yesterday I was thinking about how Christmas will fall on a Monday next year.

I know you cannot receive the Eucharist twice in one day, unless at risk of death etc. My question is this – many people will likely go to an evening vigil Mass for Christmas, say 8 PM Sunday evening. Also, many will have gone to a Sunday morning Mass. Is this considered an exception that they could receive the Eucharist both times? It would seem they couldn’t, but I can’t remember back when it last happened, and I don’t think I ever remember that rule being in place around Christmas.

Is this an exception, and we can receive the Eucharist say Sunday morning and evening?

Its my understanding you can receive the Eucharist more than once in a day provided it is during a Mass.

I oftentimes receive Communion from one of the Eucharistic Ministers/Nuns who give Communion where I work ( a Catholic hospital) and then will attend evening mass and receive communion again. I have been told that communion twice a day is ok.
On occasion, I have gone to mass at work and again in the evening on my way home. Far as I can see, nothing wrong ( and a lot right! )with that

From the Code of Canon Law:Can. 917 A person who has already received the Most Holy Eucharist can receive it a second time on the same day only within the eucharistic celebration in which the person participates, without prejudice to the prescript of ⇒ can. 921, §2.

Can. 921 §1. The Christian faithful who are in danger of death from any cause are to be nourished by holy communion in the form of Viaticum.

§2. Even if they have been nourished by holy communion on the same day, however, those in danger of death are strongly urged to receive communion again.

As long as the second time is within the Mass, even without the danger of death, it is OK to receive a second time.
 
As has been pointed out, reception twice in one day (as long as the second time is at a Mass) has been permitted generally since 1983. However, the particular circumstance in question has been allowed as an exception since 1967:
The Mass celebrated on the evening before Pentecost Sunday is the present Mass of the Vigil, with the Creed. Likewise, the Mass celebrated on the evening of Christmas Eve is the Mass of the Vigil but with white vestments, the Alleluia and the Preface of the Nativity, as on the feast. Nevertheless it is not permitted to celebrate the Vigil Mass of Easter Sunday before dusk on Holy Saturday, certainly not before sunset. This Mass is always that of the Easter Vigil, which, by reason of its special significance in the liturgical year and in the whole Christian life, must be celebrated with the liturgical rites laid down for the Vigil on this holy night.

The faithful who begin to celebrate the Sunday or holy day of obligation on the preceding evening may go to Communion at that Mass even if they have already received Communion in the morning. Those who "have received Communion during the Mass of the Easter Vigil, or during the Mass of the Lord’s Nativity, may receive Communion again at the second Easter Mass and at one of the Masses on Christmas Day."80 Likewise “the faithful who go to Communion at the Mass of Chrism on Holy Thursday may again receive Communion at the evening Mass of the same day,” in accordance with the Instruction Tres abhinc annos of May 4, 1967, no. 14.

I believe one is permitted to receive the Eucharist more than once a day in the confines of the Mass, when the Mass is offered for different intentions. Remember, most Priests say 2-3 Masses on Sunday.
 
Thanks for the referernces to back up the points - I didn’t think it was a problem only because I had not experienced it before.
 
Technically, you’d be attending two distinctly different Masses, since the evening Mass anticipates the next day. I think the Canon is more for people who, superstitiously, attend multiple same day Masses in order to receive “more of the Lord.”
 
Christmas is a solemnity, so the day starts the evening before. Every Sunday is a solemnity, so you can take the Holy Eucharist at mass on Saturday morning, and again at a Vigil Mass Saturday evening, because technically, it is a new day.

Think of solemnities as days that are so important, they last for 30 hours.
 
Thanks - I never thought about Saturday morning Mass, I don’t think I have ever attended it - I always hit the daily Masses Monday through Friday.
