at daily Mass during the consecration when the priest says “this is my body” he did not raise the a host up in elevation, instead he lifted the large bowl containing all of them and just kinda raised it real quickly above the alter for a second and set it down. I had never seen this happen before and wasn’t sure what to think.

Tell the priest that it is a bit difficult to adore the Blessed Sacrament when you can’t see it because it’s inside the “bowl”!!

I sometimes attend a parish close to my home where they had one priest who did the same thing. However all the other priests would take a host, large of small and hold it out in front of themselves and/or elevate it to display the host to the congregants.
I believe it says in the instructions for the Mass that the priest “display” the host at the consecration. Well, that’s what your priest did as well as my priest. However, it is not in the manner that most priests do it. I don’t konw if the latest Liturgical mandates made any reference to this type of activity or not. I would hope it did.
I don’t know why they do it that way. Whether it’s laziness, rebellion, maybe a disbelief, etc. ; I don’t know.
I do know I had never seen it done that way when I was growing up and before V-II. I’m not saying that V-II made it happen nor that it never happend that way before. I just had never seen it before.
To my understanding it is still a licit and valid consecration so that shouldn’t worry you.
The priest at my parish was moved to a parish in a town that holds a major state university so when our Catholic parents get their kids home you can imagine how they will probably be catechized there with this priest. I don’t know. Maybe I am being too hard on him. If I am I’m sorry. I just know that the other priests who celebrate Mass do it more in the manner that we are used to. In fact there is one priest whose Mass I love to attend. He is a young Filipino priest who comes to my parish in the summer. He is the most reverent at serving the Mass I have seen in a long time. And he says the St. Michael the Archangel prayer after Mass. And when it is time to display Christs’ Body at the consecration he really elevates it and holds it there for all to see and venerate and be reverential to.
