This past weekend we had the Eucharist Congress in my home town. i did not go but those who went told me that from now on, everybody must stand after receiving the Eucharist.

no longer is one to kneel when going back to their pews. according to those who spoke in this Eucharist congress, VII says that all must stand.

does anyone know where the VII document says that everybody must stand after receiving Sacred Communion? according to these speakers kneeling is no longer the norm?

God bless all of you.

Do you mean just in your area? I thought it was up to the individual Bishop what the policy is in their own area? I know that I for one am kneeling- end of story.

If you did not go, I would recommend asking your priest or doing as is the custom in your church until told otherwise by your Bishop or priest.

I went to a seminar a few years ago and tokk notes and wrote report after, yet someone else who went (my former Anglican Church) gave a slightly different account of fact than mine.

Word of mouth these days can be very unreliable.🙂

yes, it can. but this is not something that someone just could have just misunderstood.
the bishop was one of the speakers and he is very liberal.

What you’re indicating is not true. Its up to each Diocese to set those “norms”. Our Diocese tried something similar a couple of years ago. The Abp said, “no more hand holding during the “Our Father” and to stand after communion” Naturally each faction politely blew him off and continues to this day to do their own thing. Lib’s still hold hands and Trads still kneel.

Don’t ya just love the Universal church.

We do both hold hands and kneel after communion though one of the father’s I was told prefer we sit back quietly in prayer

Firstly Vat II **does not **say any such thing. Sorry for the mad face but I get peeved when people say Vat II said something it didn’t.

The General Instruction on the Roman Missal #43 (Australia) says “During the sacred silence after the distribution of Holy Communion, they may either sit or kneel.”

The US version says “they may sit or kneel while the period of sacred silence after Communion is observed.”

Out of intrest #43 US also says “In the dioceses of the United States of America, they should kneel beginning after the singing or recitation of the Sanctus until after the Amen of the Eucharistic Prayer, except when prevented on occasion by reasons of health, lack of space, the large number of people present, or some other good reason. Those who do not kneel ought to make a profound bow when the priest genuflects after the consecration. The faithful kneel after the Agnus Dei unless the Diocesan Bishop determines otherwise.”

The OZ one says the same sans exemptions and the last bit. “They then kneel from the completion of the Sanctus until after the Great Amen, and then stand from the beginning of the invitation to the Lord’s Prayer until the completion of the Agnus Dei, when they are to kneel again until the distribution of Holy Communion.”

thank you. so, after one receives Communion, one goes back to his seat and kneel, and do not stand like these people are instructing the people as the norm according to VII, correct? their excuse apparently is that because others are still standing receiving Communion everybody must be standing untill the end of Communion. i dont know about that.

Perhaps it was the speakers who misunderstood the documents.

Nothing in Vatican II legislates posture (particularly for a missal not written until 5 years later).

The GIRM is slightly ambiguous in this area, never instructing the people to stand, but rather specifying that they should kneel during the “period of silence after Communion”. This is customarily interpreted as beginning after each person receives, but it has recently also been interpreted as after everyone receives. Whichever interpretation of the GIRM is used, the CDW did not envision enforced uniformity, so the individual is certainly still free to kneel.

CUF has a good article, including clarifications from Rome on the issue.

indeed ambiguous. so, according to this document it is the norm to stand. it is said that we may be allowed to kneel. we are just allowed to kneel as a secondary option. very interesting indeed. basically, eventually kneeling should be done away according to this document. no, wonder the new Churches dont have any kneeler, they wont be needing any more in the feature. Rome does intend to stop the kneeling altogether in the feature, it is just coming slowly. this is very confusion times we live in, how much more confusion is going to be in the Church eventually?

I am sure someone here will give the proper citations, but it is the universal practice to stand after the end of the Eucharistic prayer, but there is an indult in the US to allow kneeling after the fraction and after communion, or anywhere it has become established custom. Right now you have the option to stand, sit or kneel after communion, but if your bishop says stand, then you stand (if you are physically able).
what did i indicate that was not true?
nothing, but if you were not there and did not hear the actual message, you can’t be sure it was reported accurately to you. My advice is wait and see what instruction you receive in your own parish.

No, it is ambiguous as to the norm for the period of time between personal reception of Communion and the end of the distribution of Communion. There is no set posture. Nothing I have cited indicates any end to kneeling, rather the right of the faithful to kneel is upheld (not may be, is).

A large part of the confusion in our day and age comes from people speaking when they should be trying to understand.

this is the problem. it is up for grabs. there is no set posture. this means if we have an authoritative who is liberal we will stand, if we have an authoritative voice who is Traditional, we will kneel. it all depends who you will get. no wonder Catholics are looking more and more like protestants.

As opposed to the EF which has very few rubrics for the laity? No, the problem is the misunderstanding of unity as equal to uniformity. The fact is **the **authoritative voice on this matter has spoken, we are free to kneel. Bishops cannot forbid it, therefore there is no issue here.

Vat II says nothing about posture, though it does say we should be able to chant or at least say our bits of the Mass in Latin and that Gregorian Chant should be given first place at Mass.

After communion we stand or kneel no mention of standing according to the GIRM
Is this after everyone has recieved or us personally?
I would imagine it means us?
The CDWDS statement says to kneel or sit is not forbidden
In OZ people either kneel or sit after having recieved Communion and for the silence or canticle/psalm/hymn after Communion.

The Church mentions nothing about this.

so, when people during these Eucharist seminars teach people such things, what are they doing? why are they telling people to stand during Eucharist dispensation? to me this is something new. why are they changing it?

Do these people have any authority? Seems not.
Have they read Vat II docs, liturgucal docs, the GIRM? Seems not.

You may have heard of the “spirit of Vatican II.” Notice I use spirit and not Spirit. People claim changes in the vague spirit of Vatican II as opposed to the actual letter of Vatican II. It seems these people are placing their unsubstantiated opinions on people.

Correct. that is why i dont go to such encounters until i know who are the instructors. it seems like the wrong people are making their rounds and preaching unChurch things to Catholics. i wont be surprise after this Eucharist seminar people down here no longer kneel after Communion many already do any, since few Churches around here have no kneelers anyway. apparently those that have kneelers are trying to do away with it so is to follow those that dont have any kneelers.

Do you know who the speaker was?
