I just attended a Mass for the first time today, and I noticed something that seems odd to me. A woman went up and received two pieces of the bread, ate one and stuffed the other in her pocket. Is this acceptable? I have never heard of it before and just thought I’d ask.

Nope, not at all.

Did she put it in a container of some sort first?

Please do Christ a favor and bring this to the Pastors attention. If she is carrying Christ to a shut-in or sick spouse the Blessed Sacrament MUST be carried in a pyx that has been blessed.

I agree with Bro.Rich.That is not good. Also do you know the lady?I go with a group every week to pray the Rosary at abortion mill, the director of one of them is a santaria priestess, one of the priest had to call a parish near that mill and talk to their pastor because she admitted to taking the Eucharist at a service. All we can do is pray that Our Lord was not desecrated in a santeria ritual:mad: The situation described is very disturbing and must be brought to the attention of the Priest.God Bless

We had a kid in our senior year get literally kicked out of school because he did this.

The caught him, and lead him out the front doors.
If she needed it for a sick person, she knows where the priest lives.

received two pieces of the bread 😦
  1. It wasn’t “two pieces of bread”, it was "two Hosts - the Body and Blood of Christ.
  2. If it was “two pieces of bread” there would be no problem.
  3. Did the priest give her two Hosts or did she take two herself.
In either case there would seem to be a problem with the priest.

A pyx need not be blessed before its initial use. It’s certainly not a bad idea, but it’s also not necessary…

There used to be a requirement that all sacred vessels which held the Body or Blood of Christ had to be Blessed. Maybe this has changed.

Perhaps, although I believe this only applies to sacred vessels.

Just like it was once required that all chalices be consecrated

This is bad news. the correct procedure is for an extraordinary minister to collect the sacred Hosts in a pyx,not load them at the Communion. The priest, deacon or layperson distributing Communion may have missed this, but she should have been challenged on the spot If i see aperson who does not seem to know how to receive, I do question them then and there. One one occasion, I pursued a doubtful character down the church and made him consume the Host he was palming. I have seen children palm the host and play with it, At worst, we had a rash of satanists who were coming to obtain Hosts for their rituals.extraordinary ministers of Communion, stay alert!

Did she get fries with it?
(sorry, it had to be said)

My first question would be, how did she get two of them? One per customer was my understanding!?

First, I do not know her or the priest, as I said it was my first time at a Mass. I was just visiting. I also wasn’t sure about the terminology, so I apologize. Second, the priest is the one who gave them to her. She said something to him, and he gave her two Hosts. I was too far away to hear what she said. Third, I think she may have wrapped it in something before she put it in her pocket, but I’m not sure.

the following site

carm.org

click on “Christian Discussion Forums” then on “Catholic” to read.

We need some good Catholic apologists who know how to explain the doctrine of Transubstantiation there.

Technically speaking, what you saw was a faux pax. That’s not the usual procedure.
Maybe it wasn’t a faux pax, but a faux pyx.😃

Sorry, not a joking matter. I couldn’t resist.

If necessary a Host can be placed in a Purificator if no Pyx is available.
