An Orthodox priest who was once a Catholic told me he saw in the Catholic church a Mass where potatoe chips and coca cola were used for the Eucharist

He rubbishes Catholicism alot btw…

Has anybody heard of these things taking place?
What do Catholics think about this?

I think either your Orthodox priest has a problem or, the Catholic Church he went to did something terrible…

In any case, im sure you know we Catholics do not use potato chips or coca cola for the Eucharist.

If I was his bishop and he did that I would have removed him from ministry as well.

I have heard such things have taken place. Google liturgical abuses for confirmation.

Sadly, things like this did occur, mostly back in the early 1970’s during the worst of the “liturgical experimentation” following Vatican II. (Technically, it wasn’t even a Mass since no transubstantiation could have occurred. It was an “attempt” at Mass).

I don’t know why this priest sees the need to point this out… abuses do not have any bearing on the correct usage authorized by the Church.

Hes probably like a lot of other ex-Catholics: its just an excuse for leaving the Church.

Coke, no…Pepsi, maybe.

😃

As serious as this topic is, any suggestion that a Roman Catholic priest celebrates or has celebrated mass with soda and chips has to be taken with a grain of salt, **especially ** when suggested by someone outside the faith.

With all due respect Rainaldo, just because something can be found via Google doesn’t mean it is true.

The Dihydrogen Monoxide Research Division at dhmo.org comes to mind.

As a Child we use to play “church”. I said many Masses and used Kool-Aid and potato chips.

Ah ha, you my good fellow are extremely catholic. 👍

Also, I… can’t quite bring myself to believe that a Mass was performed with a real priest consecrating potato chips and cola. God help us if such a thing ever does take place and no one in the congregation interrupts.

What he says is rubbish. Nothing like that would happen in a Catholic Church.
Isn’t it strange that people try to condemn the Church without ever providing anything to support their negative claims.
