Im just going by what jmcrae said. I THINK he meant literal, visible blood and flesh but I don’t know.

And yes, I’m struggling with essence and accidents.
Many followers left Jesus because they could not accept this teaching. You can read this in the Gospel of John 6:

52 The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us [his] flesh to eat?”
53 Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.
54 Whoever eats* my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.
55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.
57 Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.
58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.”
59 These things he said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

60 Then many of his disciples who were listening said, “This saying is hard; who can accept it?”
61 Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, “Does this shock you?
62 What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?*
63 It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
64 But there are some of you who do not believe.” Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him.
65 And he said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.”
66 As a result of this, many [of] his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him.

I’m trying to understand the Eucharist better. Is it correct to say that the Glorified Jesus can take any form He wishes and He chose to take the form of the Eucharist?
I found a video of Tim Staples talking to a caller about this and he said Jesus can take on the form of anything he chooses. I can’t find it now.

I hate to butt in if unwelcome but let me add that you might be imposing a standard of evidence on something that does not apply.

Christ is a person. What is a person, or rather who is a person?
We are persons. Who are we? Not by ID tag or by experiment, but by essence.
You can look at the lump of molecules in front of you and still not know who I am.

Maybe you can see that there is more to apprehend than “meets the eye” in regard to the Eucharist.

And the crucified body and blood of Jesus Christ
The same since the resurrected body of the faithful is that body glorified.

Lateran IV Council, Denzinger Sources of Catholic Dogma:

429 And finally the only begotten Son of God, Jesus Christ, incarnate by the whole Trinity in common, conceived of Mary ever Virgin with the Holy Spirit cooperating, made true man, formed of a rational soul and human flesh, one Person in two natures, clearly pointed out the way of life. And although He according to divinity is immortal and impassible, the very same according to humanity was made passible and mortal, who, for the salvation of the human race, having suffered on the wood of the Cross and died, descended into hell, arose from the dead and ascended into heaven. But He descended in soul, and He arose in the flesh, and He ascended equally in both, to come at the end of time, to judge the living and the dead, and to render to each according to his works, to the wicked as well as to the elect, all of whom will rise with their bodies which they now bear, that they may receive according to their works, whether these works have been good or evil, the latter everlasting punishment with the devil, and the former everlasting glory with Christ.

Tim stables program uses the phrase “appear in any form”. Appear refers to the accidents – what is manifest.

See Merriam-Webster Dictionary
  • appear (intransitive verb)
4: to become evident or manifest …
  • manifest (adjective)
1: readily perceived by the senses and especially by the sense of sight …
So, could it mean Jesus is appearing in the form of bread and wine, but He is transubstantiated?

Jesus is not transubstantiated the bread and wine are. The Person of the Son of God has a divine nature and assumed a human nature. The human nature is with a soul and body. Transubstantiation means a change of substance.

Before
  • Bread essence (substance) under bread appearance (accident).
  • Wine essence (substance) under wine appearance (accident).
After
  • Whole Christ essence (substance) under bread appearance (accident).
  • Whole Christ essence (substance) under wine appearance (accident).

Prayer of St. John Damascene

God, my God, all consuming invisible fire, you make your angels flaming fire. In your inexpressible love, you have condescended to give me your divine flesh. You have allowed me to partake of your divinity by possessing your most pure body and precious blood. May they penetrate my entire body and spirit and all my bones. May they burn away my sins, enlighten my soul, and brighten my understanding. May they sanctify me, making a dwelling place in me so that I too may be in you forever, with your blessed Father, and your all-holy Spirit, through the prayers of your most pure Mother and all of your saints. Amen.
