We all know that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist in the appearence of bread and wine, but my question is does the eucharist actually PHYSICALLY change from bread to Jesus?
 
The appearance, the physical characteristics, don’t change. It has all the physical properties of bread and wine. But it really becomes, in every sense, Jesus.

Just as if I had an identical twin and we shared all the same physical characteristics. Identical twins do share every component of their DNA, so it’s certainly more than possible. I would look precisely like them, my voice and other characteristics might be the same as theirs but I wouldn’t BE my twin.

So the Eucharist looks and behaves like bread and wine but isn’t - it IS Jesus, as he said ‘this IS my body’.

CCC 1376 The Council of Trent summarizes the Catholic faith by declaring: “Because Christ our Redeemer said that it was truly his body that he was offering under the species of bread, it has always been the conviction of the Church of God, and this holy Council now declares again, that by the consecration of the bread and wine there takes place a change of the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the body of Christ our Lord and of the whole substance of the wine into the substance of his blood. This change the holy Catholic Church has fittingly and properly called transubstantiation.”
 
LilyM,thank you for your Twin analogy. I have a “hard headed” teen age son who says because it looks like bread and wine, then it can’t be truly the Body and Blood of our Lord.:eek: Your analogy is easy to understand, mostly because he has identical twin nieces and can personally relate to it.👍

this issue has been discussed on at least 2 very recent threads, with some great links, and a lot of argument, a search will be very helpful for you. No, Christ is substantially and sacramentally present in the Eucharist, not physically.
