Hi all,

Our church does perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. There is a small adoration chapel, but it’s actually a small wing of the church, and is walled off from the main area where Mass is said buy a temporary, fold-away wall.

Recently, our parish priest called a meeting of those who are on the adoration roster. The practice up to this point has been that the Blessed Sacrament is reposed when Mass is being said. Father now wants to continue adoration during Mass.

Is this technically possible? Especially since the Monstrance is in the same physical building in which consecration is taking place?

Yes but only if the area where the adoration takes place is completely separated from the area where the Mass is. It hasn’t to be complete physical detachment, but I suspect a fold-away wall may not be enough.

We have a parish in town that has a Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Always open for adorers while Mass is being prayed. Open 24 hrs a day actually.

I forget exactly what days, but there are only a couple of days a year the chapel is closed. Anyhow, I’m certain the parish is in line with the guidelines.

We have adoration in a chapel that is in the church building but you have to go out of the church proper and a few steps away. We never have adoration while Mass is going on.

Please bear with me, but I have a basic question.

If the Eucharist is in the monstrance at the Adoration chapel, what is in the tabernacle?

The Eucharist is in the Tabernacle just as it is in the Monstrance.

I have some memories from my study (Rado Enchiridium Sacramentorum and the lectures of the author), that before St Pius X the Holy Sacrament in perpetual adoration was not repositioned for the time of the Mass. I may be wrong.

My guess is that if the adoration chapel is separated then the reposition is not required. If the same building would be obstacle than perpetual adoration would be almost impossible.

The reason for the reposition (if the Sacrament is on the high altar) is that the movement of the priest would be restricted by the frequent genuflection. Jesus body is not duplicated any way, this is one and the same everywhere.
