Hi! This is my first post, and hopefully not my last. I had a question about this topic and I figured that if any community was going to ‘know’ the answer, it would be this one!

I’m a PhD student working from home, and I also have a few issues with poor mental health, such as depression and feeling unable to concentrate on what I’m doing. Anyway, I was wondering if I could use a live-streamed Eucharistic adoration website and keep it open on my screen while I was working. I want to live the message of ‘Pray constantly’, and this way, if I’ve got a constant visual Real Presence, I’d feel a lot calmer (I do when I stream the Blessed Sacrament because none of my local parishes offer Eucharistic Adoration like they do elsewhere), I could keep working to the best of my ability and offering it up to Jesus, and just look up to see Him near me. It’s hard to maintain the aspect of constant mental prayer, and study, so a visual prompt would work very well for me. What I’d worry about, though, is ‘ignoring’ Him - I’m not, I’m trying to share my day/work with Him as much as I can.

Anyway, that’s the question and the intentions I have behind it, I’d be very grateful for your insight!

You absolutely can! I don’t know of any, but I would say that’s absolutely licit.

Welcome to Catholic Answers Forums!

I would say it would only be acceptable if you are aware of the hosting fees and “paying your way”. Servers can only handle so much traffic and if you’re not actively using the service you are either costing the church more in hosting fees or preventing someone else from getting on.

That’s a valid point, although I wasn’t aware that certain people couldn’t access it, I just assumed that because it was online, everyone could! The site in question offers a low-bandwidth and also a still image option, so that could provide a viable alternative too… What I’m more concerned about tho is whether I’d be disrespecting Jesus by reading and writing at the same time as having Him on the screen.

Low bandwith will help, as well as a still image. But with a service that realistically only you benefit from, (not as a whole, but in the macro, as in the bandwidth is taken up only by you) you really should consider contributing. It is most likely that the servers have purchased more bandwidth than the maximum numbers of users ever recorded but there is still a limit and at some point they would go down.

It’s fine to do take to Jesus whatever you need to. I used to bring my homework in college and post-college I would bring stories I was writing. Sometimes adoration is fully focused. Sometimes it’s just basking in God’s presence whatever you do.

People read and write during in-person Adoration. You’re completely okay on that front. 🙂

One of my favorite things to do with my husband, though we don’t have much time for it anymore, is to read with him. Same couch, separate books. It’s not disrespectful to be there with him and yet not be interacting with him directly at every moment.

You can use small aspirations to help you remember God throughout the day.

Do you have EWTN? They have “Eucharistic Adoration” right after the Rosary usually. Check the times.

This YouTube channel has a live broadcast of adoration from Our Lady of Sorrows in Alabama.
