Some of the parishioners at my parish would like to have Eucharistic Adoration, maybe starting with an hour a week and working up to more hours over the coming months. We would like to have adoration after one of the weekday Masses but our pastor said that there has to be a 15 min. span between the Mass and Adoration, so he’s kind of dragging his feet about it. Does there have to be a break between Mass and Adoration?

Absolutely not. The priest can actually expose the Blessed Sacrament at the end of Mass, after the final blessing.

:o Hmmmm. That doesn’t sound right to me, either. Our priest does the same thing that kleary said. Maybe he doesn’t know and doesn’t want to have to do the work to find out? I’m just guessing.

Our Eucharistic Exposition opens after the 8:30 am Mass on Friday at 9:00 and closes on Sat. at 8:45 am. I do not think there is 15 min. between the end of Mass and the opening of Exposition.

My church has Adoration every First Friday, starting immediately after the 8:00 Mass and ending just before the evening Mass. There is no waiting period between the end of Mass and the start of Adoration.

Incidentally, this church is the Bishop’s cathedral…

I don’t know his situation and time constraints, but…

Ask him to have Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament before Mass. (Also called Holy Hour of Adoration).

If he pooh poohs that, then you have every right to ask him why he is opposed to Eucharistic Adoration. If he is denying the spiritual needs of his flock, he should be prepared to explain why.

[137.] Exposition of the Most Holy Eucharist must always be carried out in accordance with the prescriptions of the liturgical books.[235]
Note 235: Roman Ritual, Holy Communion and Worship of the Eucharist Outside Mass, nn. 82-100; Missale Romanum, Institutio Generalis, n. 317; Code of Canon Law, can. 941 § 2.

The instruction from the GIRM (n317) is found in chapter V, III: The Arrangement of the Church.

In none of these, does it say anything about waiting 15 minutes after Mass is over. In fact, there are sometimes Masses with the specific intention of being followed by Adoration. I couldn’t find any instructions about a 15 minute break, but then I was scanning quickly and might have missed it.

Perhaps he is reluctant because he has appointments later in the day. Even if you are not having Benediction, someone has to replace the Host in the Tabernacle at the end of Adoration. There might not be someone else available at that time. If you can work out all the objections, go back to him with your solutions and ask again.

Praying that the Holy Spirit inspire this priest to offer Adoration.

To the OP–does your parish have any Deacons that would be willing to open and close the Exposition? That is who does it in my parish.
