Eucharistic Adoration..

Quick question,

When Our Lord is displayed in the Monstrance at perpetual adoration, is it propper to say a Rosary or Divine Mercy Chaplet? or should one not be doing this?

Have you noticed how many great books, written expressly for Adoration, are available to us?

I know some adorers who stay for longer periods of time so they can pray, say the rosary, read, meditate, or just sit/kneel and let the Lord bring some peace into their hearts and lives.

Others even listen to a pray CD or an instructional CD… all done in reverence to the One Present.

It doesn’t seem to be a problem. Some of the adoration chapels I’ve been to keep a few extra rosaries on hand in case people don’t have theirs with them.

In a typical Holy Hour, I’ll often say both the rosary and the chaplet, as well as some other prayers alternated with periods of meditation.

I always say the Rosary at Adoration. we have perpetual Adoration during Lent, and some hours during the day all other days. Last lent I choose Fridays, and after I was finished with the rosary, the children from the school came into the main church (which the chapel is attached to) to do the stations of the cross. So I did the rosary and then some meditative prayer and then the “childrens” form of the stations of the cross. I shall choose that same time slot next year. It was great!!

I pray the Rosary at Adoration, also the Divine Mercy chaplet; also do some meditative readings. Most of the time, those lead into the moments when I can approach our Lord on the topics of my heart.

The Rosary is not going to offend Him. It’s one of the prayers that are encouraged during Adoration. We just had a group Adoration at school for 9/11, and we prayed the sorrowful mysteries.
 
Well the best explanation of what to do in Eucharistic Adoration that I have seen is in a streaming video by Fr Jack Spalding on Lifeteen. ‘The Good Lord is gazing at me, and I at him’.

I have done different types of prayer during EA. I usually say the rosary, chaplet of dm, read the bible, read prayers from a prayer book, informal, or mental prayer. I usually try to do some sort of combination of formal and informal prayer. Sometimes, if something is really bothering me and I need to think and pray, I’ll lean more toward the informal, meditative prayer.

The recitation of the rosary or Divine Mercy chaplet is certainly acceptable. Adoration could still be directed towards the exposed Sacrament. Walking through the church saying the stations or praying at the statues of saints or at side chapels during exposition would not be acceptable.
 
meditating in the rosary is acceptable but it is much proper if we focus our prayer in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. We can always mediate on the rosary wherever we are but we can only adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament inside the Church (tabernacle) and in the Adoration Chapel.

I do whatever takes my fancy - read my Bible, say a decade or two of the Rosary or the Divine Mercy, say my Liturgy of the Hours … I always end with at least a short period of silent spontaneous prayer and meditation.
 
I just started doing Eucharistic Adoration a couple of months ago. I mostly do spontaneous prayer or just let thoughts come to me as they will. Amazing what sometimes pops into my mind.

No matter what kind of day I am having I always feel better after spending an hour in the Adoration Chapel. It is the most peaceful place I have ever been. The chapel I visit is close to where I work so I often visit during my lunch hour.
 
As long as you are silent and dont’ bother anyone else you can pray whatever prayer you want. I usually say a rosary and the Divine Mercy chaplet and go on from there.

I feel as though I need to clarify that when I said I did the stations of the cross with the children I did not mean I left the adoration chapel. I knelt in the adoration chapel and prayed the stations as the children did in the church attached to the chapel. Kinda hard not too!!!
 
I usually start the hour with some prayers that I feel are appropriate. Then I move on to the Rosary and then I read the Bible. I usually then spend some time in meditation, just talking to the Lord. BTW…a parish in town has started the Holy Hour a few months ago and I haven’t missed a week. It is such an uplifting experience.

I just have one gripe. People who do not even “bother” to genuflect on both knees…or even just one.:eek:

Be kind - I have been going to holy hour for several months, and I did not know until a week or so ago that one is supposed to genuflect on both knees before the monstrance.

I don’t think most people mean to be disrespectul, it’s just a matter that needs instruction.

I don’t think I was being unkind.😉 But why would anyone think they should not genuflect at all?

My grandfather and I approach Holy Hour differently.

He likes to definitely pray the Rosary, Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and other prayers, as well as sing a hymn in between. He might also read quietly, for example, on the topic of Eucharistic miracles. Since grampa volunteers to stand watch with the Lord in the middle of the night, the singing doesn’t bother anyone, and in fact, I’m sure the Lord is pleased. 🙂

My approach is from a different spirituality. I feel called to look upon Our Eucharistic Lord in silence. So I now sometimes remind grandpa that when he sings, I will not be joining in the singing, simply because each of us has our own way of praying.

When I have prayed the Rosary in front of the Eucharist, I start beforehand by asking Mary to come and stand in front of Jesus in the monstrance, so that she will magnify the Lord for me to help me see Him better.

No, you were not being unkind. I think I was just sort of cringing inside because I recognized myself in your statement.:rolleyes:

As I said before, I think a lot of these people just haven’t been trained well, for whatever reason.

Just set a good example, and teach others by your example. I learned that I was supposed to genuflect on both knees when I saw the deacon and a few other people come after me, and I saw them doing it. Then the lightbulb went on, and I knew that I was supposed to do the same thing.🙂

I like that and will have to remember that! What a beautiful sentiment.

I tend to pray the rosary and then read something spiritual while at Adoration. It seemed wierd at first to be reading, but it’s evolved into a comfortable sitting in His presence.

I’ll add myself to those who didn’t know about getting on both knees. I always genuflect, but didn’t know about the other until I saw a very elderly lady do it.
