Eucharistic Adoration

I went to Eucharistic Adoration…and WOW! This was my 1st time to go. I’m so glad that I did. I guess I wasn’t expecting what I got out of it. Right when I walked in the door I could feel the presence of the Lord…I prayed and then just sat there. It was nice just to be able to sit there in the silence and just listen.

Now my question…I went to Eucharistic Adoration after work and had on my jean capris and flip flops. It never crossed my mind what I had on until I got home! Was I completely disrespectful to wear that?

Also, I’m starting school in a couple weeks and won’t get out of class until 8:15p.m. so I won’t be able to get to the Church until probably 9:00p.m. and I really would like to be able to go to Adoration after I get out of class on Wednesdays. That’s why I’m concerned about what to wear. Is it wrong to go in regular type clothes? I know the main thing is that I’m there. I just don’t want it to look like I’m being disrespectful.

I’m a new Catholic and I’m still a little unsure about stuff like this. Thanks for the help!!!

I love this sort of issue. I have two ways of thinking about it. I always wear my Sunday best to mass. I think it shows respect. I love Jesus and I think Sunday mornings are special, so I put something smart on.

Sometimes I get an opportunity to go to mass- or like you’ve said in this case, eucgaristic adoration-- and I’m not dressed nicely. Do you think that Jesus would prefer not to see me or you? Naaaaah, dressing up nice is something we do out of respect, Jesus loves us whatever clothes we have on! Seeing him is the most important thing. Other stuff you think of is great, but secondary considerations IMO!

I would not sweat the jeans & flip-flops If you have a chance to dress nicer then fine, do it. Otherwise I say not to let anybody give you any flak over it :tsktsk: Most of the ones that would correct you probably do not go for thier hour anyway. And they want to correct YOU? I don’t think so :tiphat:

YOu would not be doing it disrespectfully, but rather doing your best to see our Lord…making time to do so despite a hectic schedule. Eucharistic Adoration is amazing!!!

If you don’t have time to change, you can always have a pair of nice shoes in your car.

Though showing respect with outward appearance is good and important, God looks into our hearts more than at our clothes.
If you can dress up, fine, if not, as long as being neat, also fine.

I started to prostrate during Adoration the first time last week.
It is so awesome. Today is our weekly exposed Adoration again.
I am not planning to dresss my Sunday’s best since I am going to prostrate on the side isle again!

When you lower yourself to the ground and sincerely worship the Lord, especially with Him physically exposed in front of you, it is just so awesome!

I think carrying around a nice pair of shoes in your car is a really good idea…I help set up for adoration at my parish every Friday. (I set up reading material that explain what adoration means; divine mercy chaplets; the divine mercy image; rosaries; rosary pamphlets for those who might have forgotten theirs, holy hour handouts etc.) so I do some running around before adoration begins. Most of the time, I’m in some sort of flat sandle of sorts and some pairs do make that “slapping noise.” I’ve been taking deliberate steps so as to avoid making that noise and hence, disturbing anyone…(I must look pretty funny now that I think of it.) I’m going to start carrying a pair of loafers in our truck from now on!

It gives me goosebumps to think of how happy He was to see you there! Thank you for sharing your newfound blessings!

One more note: Next time you’re there, if you can, try picturing all the angels and saints that are truly there singing the holy praises to our Father. You might just be surprised at the glory you’ll feel deep inside.
