A few years ago when I went to receive the Eucharist, I had an experience I never had before and never had since. When the priest held up the host and said “the Body of Christ” I suddenly could see Christ through my soul (though not physically) as if he was wearing Royal garments and sitting on a throne. I at once felt overcome with his powerful presence and had a strong urge to plaster myself on the floor before him. I paused, speechless and then received on the tongue. I went back to the pew feeling shaken and in awe. This was by far the most profound thing that has happened in my life. But I am not sure what to make of it. This moment is always in my heart when I receive. Is there a technical spiritual term by which I can understand this?

Ok, but it felt supernatural. Just wondering if there is spiritual lingo for this type of thing. I approach the Eucharist with love every time but this only happened once.

Not really.
We’re not supposed to long fir “special signs”.
God bless you. It sounds wonderful.

It was a special grace. A gift to be treasured. You don’t really need to name it. Thanks for sharing. That’s a beautiful account you have given.

Could be called ecstasy. But the terminology doesn’t matter so much as the message. Cherish it.

It’s called a consolation. That’s what my spiritual director told me.

It’s a Grace. Read St Faustina. She discusses her love for the Eucharist

Ohhh ok. Why does God give special graces? I know it doesn’t necessarily depend on holiness. I find it interesting God focused on his majesty rather than the comforting love that many describe in their supernatural experiences. I’m not sure why God gave me that grace without allowing me to fully understand it.

Why does God do anything? Its simply a part of His plan 😀
Embrace it, and maybe use it to spread the love of the Holy Eucharist among those you know.

If it was a gift of God it was a mystical experience of some sort, probably what’s been called an “imaginative vision”.

Thank you for this reply. It helps me understand it better. Sometimes I wonder if it was God punishing me. But I guess now that I read this reply I realize it was a grace.

We’re limited by our senses. Sometimes, God gives us just a little glimpse of Reality. We don’t ask for Experiences, but we treasure them and turn them over in our hearts when they come. I’m happy for you. 🙂

The entire mass is driven by the Holy Spirit. Christ is made present by the action of the Holy Spirit. This was one such manifestation of the Spirit - intended directly and solely for you. It was and is a consolation from the divine Consoler.

It is intended to remain with you throughout this life of hope - as we know not the test of our faith which may lie ahead.
Tobit 12:13
“Because you were acceptable to God, it was necessary that testing should prove you.”

I’ve never had an experience like yours but almost12 years ago, shortly after returning to the Church aftet a 24 year absence I received and the Host felt warm and tingly in my mouth. I looked around to see if anyone else appeared to be having the same sensation, but it didn’t appear so.
