This might sound a bit silly but is toothpaste included in the fast? Obviously your not going to eat it but you might accidentally swallow some. Any ideas?

I would say no since toothpaste is a health issue. Its not taken for nourishment so I fail to see how it violates the fast.

From the Code of Canon Law:

Can. 919 §1. A person who is to receive the Most Holy Eucharist is to abstain for at least one hour before holy communion from any food and drink, except for only water and medicine.

I don’t think toothpaste is considered food or drink.

Would you let Christ enter your mouth if you have bad breath?

This is a bigger issue in the Byzantine Rite as you tilt your head back and open your mouth. The priest will definitely see pieces of food stuck between your teeth 😃
