I recently heard on a Catholic Answers Live Q&A that it is inapporpriate for lay people acting as Eucharistic ministers at mass to “bless” people as they come forth with their arms crossed during communion. I believe the anwer was that it was contained in canon law that this was prohibitied. Can anyone copy that text and send it to me or direct me to where I may find it? I’d like to discuss this with our local priest and explain (with church teaching as backup) that it is not an accepted practice.

Thanks!

This topic is currently prohibited from discussion in the forums (see the sticky “Moratorium on Blessings during Communion” post) because of the heated debate it evokes.

Read that sticky post, and you’ll see five “observations” from the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments about this.
