Years ago I was an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist and I was putting the vessels away in the tabernacle. OH NO. There was a dead bug on one of the hosts.

Is there anything special I should have done about this?

I would have picked it out…

(This is why you keep the Eucharist reserved in a lidded ciboria, IMO)

Several years ago, we had a fly land in a chalice that had yet to be purified (they were all done after Mass back then). The fly died by the time we noticed it, so with Father’s guidance, it received a burial in the flower bed by the sacristy door and the chalice was purified vía the sacrarium with copious amounts of water.
