There is a very pious man at our church and recently when he has come forward for Holy Communion, the priest finds a host already on his tongue. The second time this happened there were two hosts on his tongue and the one on top was bleeding. Our priest called the bishop, who really didn’t give him much advice or direction on how to help this person or where to direct him.

Has anyone personally known of or read about similar Eucharistic Miracles? Where might we find information that might help this man understand what is happening and what, if anything, he should do?

Assuming you’re not the priest, how do you even know about this?

There’s this whole book on Eucharistic miracles, I was reading it at my grandma’s house but I forgot what its called… (probably “Eucharistic Miracles” or something obvious like that)

This book was written by Bob and Penny Lord. Hope this helps you find it.

I have witnessed something awesome and I believe it was a miracle but it has to do with the Tabernacle.

Before I start, I know there is a guideline somewhere that only Priests are allowed to open the Tabernacle, however, our Priest, I am assuming, was not aware? I don’t know…I need to ask him…Please correct me if I am wrong.

I am a Eucharistic Minister and during Mass before the Consecration I was asked to open the Tabernacle to get the Eucharist from the previous Mass (this happens I guess in every Mass?) Anyways, I was handed the keys and when I treid to unlock it, it wouldn’t move. At first I thought it was me since it was the first time they had asked me to open it. I could feel the whole congregation staring at the back of my head wondering why I was fumbling with the keys, but it just would budge and then I thought maybe I have the wrong key since there are 2 different sets? Well, a fellow EM came to help me…she tried once, nothing. She tried again and rattled the key and then all of a sudden, the little door opened. We genuflected and continued.

After Mass, I felt so small, since I was a “rookie” I felt as if I didn’t know what I was doing. Then the lady who helped me came over told me, “It’s okay! We had the wrong set of keys, I tried it again after Mass and it still doesn’t open.” At first I was like, oh, okay, and then it hit me. I beleive it was a pure miracle. The Lord came to our rescue as always!

I have read about the Host staying hard in the mouths of people that hadn’t confessed their sins, but who knows.
I have seen other eucharist Miracles & deceptive ones, I know of the one where a priest has a hard time believing in Conscecration and the Host turned into flesh and blood in his hands, also there was one where the priest knew there was no way that he could give everybody Communion, but to his amazment there was enough for everybody.

Didi -

If it were me, I’d put this one on the shelf until both the Bishop and the Church have rendered their interpretation. As long as the man has placed himself in the hands of the Church via the local priest, there really isn’t anything to wonder about. If it is of God, it will be revealed and if it isn’t then you won’t become hurt by pressing the issue or spreading falsity inadvertantly. Either way, all involved could use your prayers and sacifices.

Peace and all good,

The book is “Miracles of the Eucharist” by Bob and Penny Lord. It has a sequel called “More miracles of the Eucharist” or somethin’ like that.

Its got a bunch of really cool miracles documented in it:

Lanciano, Italy (really famous one): Communion turned to actual flesh and blood at consecration in the 8th century. Flesh and blood is still preserved and available for adoration today.

Black-magic “love” spell would once call for burning a consecrated host. One person was converted when attempting this, the host began to spew forth blood all over.

Person for some reason stole an entire set of hosts from the tabernacle and took off. Later, afraid of what they had done, buried them in the ground. They were found when animals began to suround the site kneeling in adoration. When dug up, these hosts were placed in a special tabernacle. Now, 1000 years later, they remain fresh and uncorroded.

The closest thing I ever came to a Eucharistic miracle was when I went to receive communion at a Parish, the EMHC dropped the host on the way to my tongue. So we scowered the floor for about 30 seconds looking for it, and I went back after mass and looked for another 5 minutes, but it wasn’t there. It seemed God had just taken his body and called it back to heaven, so that it would not be defiled.

P.S. The best book I’ve read so far on the Eucharist has been “The Blessed Eucharist - Our Greatest Treasure,” by Fr. Michael Muller, CSSR. It is a re-print kept on the shelves by Tan Publishers. It was first published in 1867 and contains many accounts of Eucharistic miracles. It really sparks up devotion and reverence for those who read it. I’ve given it away a few times and had to buy a new one! An excellent read. 👍

Peace and all good,

I forgot a couple others.

Before Pope Pius X lowered the age of communication to the age or reason, it wasn’t done until the communicant reach the age of adulthood (16, I think.) For St. Catherine of Sienna, who had already come to understand and adore our Lord in the eucharist at a young age, this was a real burden she prayed frequently about before she turned 16. In turn, God would send angels to deliver communion to her. Others would see the host suddenly appear on her tongue when she was in a trance-like state.

Other saints have been known to live years eating nothing except the nourishment of daily communion. Oftent his occured in extreme cases where the saint’s stomach would allow nothing else without becoming sick, but communion would be received just fine.

Thank you, everyone. I will look into getting a couple of the books you suggested. I have seen some programs by Bob & Penny Lord on EWTN about Eucharistic Miracles. Please keep this man in your prayers. Thanks again!

Once during communion, I looked at the cup (it was clear) and the blood/wine was just a few sips away from being empty, and there was still a LONG LINE of people waiting to drink from it. I wondered how the EM was gonna handle the situation when he ran out…as I thought that, I looked away for like a second, and when I looked back, there was MORE blood/wine in the cup then before! The EM didnt walk away for a “refill”, and all the people drank! 🙂

That’s beautiful!

I love reading about miracles like this and I believe things like this do happen - I also recently posted a story about my guardian angel on another thread , so, please don’t take this as being too cynical, but,

…is it possible that the man with the hosts already on his tongue might be playing a mean joke? My first thought when I read the original post was how easy it would be to go down to a protetant/christian bookstore and purchase a box of wafers…

Again, I love miracle stories and I want to believe they are true, just throwing the question out there.:o
