In the missalette it was declared:
The Eucharistic Prayer for use in Masses for Various Needs may be used at times throughout the liturgical year.

Can this Eucharistic Prayer be used as the Eucharistic Prayer at a Sunday Mass?

Yes. Any of the approved EP options can be used at any Mass at the discretion of the priest.

There’s a difference between the four EPs and masses for various needs which are particular sets of prayers of the mass for use in varying circumstances. the latter. While anyone for the four EPs can be used at any mass a mass for varying needs cannot be said just anytime the priest feels like it. Here’s a link to a helpfully formatted Table of Permissibility which sets out when and under what conditions such masses are allowed.

That said, the missal provides a wonderful range of prayers for use with masses for various needs (as well as votive masses) which, in my experience at least, are used nearly as much as they could be.

Just to clarify, the Eucharistic prayers for use in Masses for Various Needs are intended for use in conjunction with those masses but aren’t restricted to them.

One point…EP IV can really only be used during Ordinary Time, as it has a proper preface which must be prayed in conjunction with the EP. The other liturgical seasons, as well as celebrations of saints, have proper prefaces of their own, which thus precludes the use of EP IV.

This is true - thanks for pointing that out (beautiful prayer that it is).

In my experience EPIII is the most common for Sunday masses, followed by EPII and then EPI (the Roman Canon). In my ten years as a catholic I have heard EPIV maybe once or twice. The others? Maybe once or twice in total as well.
