Why does the invocation prayer have the verb “will be given up” instead of “shall be given” which most Biblical scripts use? Is there some reason for using ‘will be’ instead of “shall be” or are the two interchangeable in meaning?

Not something I ever thought about until you posted.

I don’t think there’s any particular meaning behind the choice. The word “shall” is falling into disuse. I think it’s nothing more than that.

As I sit here and mouth the words “which will be given up for you” is clearer than “which shall be given up” because there’s a tendency to slur it into “whisshall be given…” Maybe they tried both out loud and decided “will” just sounds better.
