Usually at mass I’m use to seeing the bell go off when the communion is held in the air, but at my new church instead of the bell ringing the sound is " click click click " as if two drum sticks were hitting against eachother , is this valid?

This church is fully Roman Catholic but I just find this to be kind of wierd. Shall I leave this parish and try another?

God bless and thanks for your help!

This is done during Lent in some places to replace the bells as a form of “fasting” from the more beautiful sound of bells. Don’t worry… it’s a perfectly “traditional” practice. It’s kind of like putting veils over the statues.

But:

I have not heard of it being done prior to the Triduum Passion services, though (i.e. after Holy Thursday mass of the Lord’s Supper), but I don’t recall exactly.

The bells themselves are optional. Some parishes don’t use bells, some do. Some use a gong.

Wow, thanks for the blessing! No problem 😃

Usually they use two blocks of wood for this.

By the way, in some old monasteries, they would clap similar blocks of wood together to wake the monks up before dawn for prayer. 🙂

Wow I didn’t know that haha! I’m new to Catholicism even though I been studying for 2 years, god bless!

Traditionally, wooden crackers instead of bells in the western church for all of Lent.

as for the East, though, not being required to do this was one of the terms of the Union of Brest . . .
