A member of our parish passed away unexpectedly. She was really generous with her time and talent, up until a chronic illness kept her away for a period of time.
We’re planning a rosary for her the night before the funeral. Our priest, who’s from another continent, mentioned the custom of eulogizing the individual during the rosary— sharing anecdotes, things like that.
None of us have that in our experience of funeral rosaries, and we’re not quite sure how to organize it. Do we arrange for, say, five people to talk about her in between the mysteries? And then hope that additional people feel brave enough to join in?
Is it a Thing you’ve experienced? We can say an ordinary rosary for the repose of her soul, no problem. If it’s a common thing, we’re open to trying it— but none of us have any personal experience of how it’s structured or what’s expected. (The last time I ran into a Catholic eulogy was at a funeral Mass for a pair of unborn twins, where their father talked about how they had saved their marriage, during the usual time for announcements before the closing prayers. Otherwise, I can’t think of any eulogizing at all.)
Thanks!
