The burka looks ridiculous. You don’t see Ralph Lauren or Donatella Versace fashion shows with burka-wearing models strutting down the runway.
…just sayin’…
HAH!!! I can just see the next Miss American Pageant. “AND NOW Presenting Miss California in the Burka competition, wearing a lovely burka made by Victoria Secret. June, doesn’t Miss California look just fabulous in her long black sequin adorned with white lace burka? The judges will certainly rate her very high. She has to be the one to beat in this competition!!!” "Oh yes Frederick… She is just lovely. Truly fahhbulous…!!😃

A Bosnian Muslim told me that those coming here with the burkas and whatever, are indeed being inflammatory and political…and

Building this big 13 story mosque in New York City, that at present has its community of only 13 actual members, is indeed a set up, a provocation by the big thought working in Islam.

Yes, I’m serious, let any woman walk by herself here in Saudi Arabia without burka and see how many cars would stop and beep for her.
And in the west, burka would add additional protection for woman against rapists.
are you on record as stating women in ultra conservative Islamic nations are not lacking in basic human rights? in regards to driving a motor vehicle, seeking an education, to marry someone the love be that whom ever?

Indeed.

Further, the Burka is not a religious symbol, it is cultural, so comparisons to truly religious symbols are not valid.

Persons who are determined to wear the Burka, or impose it on the female population, need to remain in Muslim countries. The Burka does not belong in the West.
what if it is worn by choice?

If that is the reason for the Burka, then the problem is with the religion and culture that does not teach men to practice self control in sexual matters. Any religion that promises 77 virgins only increases the lustful desires in men. If men are not able to control themselves, then why aren’t men required to wear metal briefs with lock that can only be opened by their wives, or parents, if the man is single. If women not wearing burkas sexually arouses men, then men should be forced to wear horse blinders and a neck brace so they cant turn their heads and look lustfully at a woman. If caught turning their head, then the man should be arrested for attempted rape and need the witness of four women to clear him of those charges. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander.
correct me if I am wrong, men tend to be very dominant over women in SOME Islamic nations, is this not a question of human rights? how does Islam justify dominance and sometimes abuse of Muslim women? I have served in the middle east so I am somewhat educated about Muslim cultures.:o

do you not think your post is offensive? to incite Muslims? please be nice:)

This is the United States of America. If you’re wearing anything other than a buckskin loincloth, you’re wearing the clothing of a “foreign culture.”

this is getting ugly, is it not? this is a hot issue and I need to remember to have christian values in regards to treating everyone with respect, that means Muslims too:thumbsup: what would Jesus do? I hope I am as nearly good as he was.

These women have been indoctrinated to wear these clothes. From what I understand, Islam did not always impose these clothes…this imposition of the burka came later.

Yes, it is inhumane and those people coming here already know they are making a very bold statement wearing them. And knowing the deliberate provocation this sort of dress is imposing on the host country and the symbol of oppression and perversion it symbolizes, France is right to ban.

Ban the burka because it is perverted and perverts the woman wearing it.

Likewise I do not like immodest dress of women either and you can see how Americans are seeing more and more of the body in every day magazine snapshots…a few celebrities is all it takes…how far down we have fallen.

Since the Burka is cultural, not religious, then it is an entirely different matter. Culture is not the same as religion and is not protected as some sort of “human right”.

When a guest visits another person’s home, the guest does not come in and start dictating how things are to be during the visit. To do so would be extremely rude. Such a guest may not be welcome to make a return visit.

Similarly, if a Muslim chooses to leave a Muslim country and move to a non-Muslim country, such as all of Western Europe, or the US, or many other countries in the world, then the Muslim cannot expect to impose the culture of his home country on his new country. Instead, the appropriate thing to do is to adopt the culture and ways of the new country. That is what successful immigration entails. Anything else breeds division, balkanization, and other problems.

France is right to ban the burka. The entire European Union should follow suit.

Melanie Ann,
You hit the crux of the issue…the burka is indeed an imposition on their women after Islam had already been instituted in their culture. It is now a political symbol that they are coming so you better get over it…again, the lack of reciprocity and provocation…and using their women, many of them mothers with children…

I read people pretty well. Just like a burka woman going in to get a job…who was turned down over 20 times previously…went to hair salon, and this poor woman did not want to hire her…but this time the Muslima sued…or a veiled woman wanting to be hired at Ambercombie Fitch here in the USA when I won’t let their catalogue into my house. Or the 6 flying imams…the whole thing was contribed…they got a settlement…alot of money…

That’s right Kathleen. It is a deliberate provocation, as are many other provocative acts. We have to remember that this is being done in an effort, over the long term, to impose Sharia law and Muslim control over the entire world.

Same with the Cordoba Mosque in New York … The Catholic Cathedral in Spain was destroyed and replaced by the Cordoba Mosque…what is frequently done by Muslims who have contempt for all other religions…they still want Spain back.

There are protests now growing all over the country…and more and more people do not want these kinds of mosques in their towns.

The fact that the US is timid in confronting Muslim extremism does not change the facts and does not change right from wrong. The Burka is a barbaric thing.

The Burka is intrinsically oppressive and anti-female. Anyone who doesn’t “get” this should be forced to wear one out in the hot sun in high Summer. If men had to wear this thing as well as women, I have no doubt that its use would disappear.

The Burka is not a religious garment, it is imposed culturally. If Muslims want to live in such a culture, there are many Muslim countries from which they can choose. These countries will also allow men to beat their wives and other things that are not supported in Western societies. It has no place in Western countries who have no such culture. As such, it should be banned. Since there is no conflict with religion in this case, this should be no problem even in societies where religious freedom is valued.

Persons that wish to indulge in this sort of oppression should stay in Muslim countries, not attempt to impose their culture on others. As stated previously, the Burka should be regarded with the same revulsion as a Nazi Swastika or a Ku Klux Klan robe as all these symbols share many common factors.

I don’t agree with Islam and think that it should be stopped before they take over the world of something but, to ban the attire of one religious sect is opening the floodgates to banning all religious garb. Before you know it we won’t be allowed to wear a crucifix, nuns will be arrested if they leave their convents and priests will have to hide their collars!

EDIT: One poster commented saying that the burka is cultural, not religious and explained further. This makes sense to me, and I suppose that if you look at it in that way it would be fine to ban it however, it is still only one step away from banning religiously affiliated garb such as I mentioned.

The Burka is not religious. It is a cultural thing. So there is no conflict with symbols that are truly religious.

That’s nice.

That doesn’t change the fact that the Burka is barbaric. Any man that doesn’t think so should be forced to wear one.

First time I saw a woman in one…well, she was driving a van with an Episcopalian school label on her rear bumper and she had a Caucasian older woman sitting with her in the front looking quite uncomfortable.

From the sounds of my posts here, you may imagine me in some sort of road rage following this woman. Well, we had to go to the same bank.

The woman got out before me. She had her burka on plus sunglasses. Plus she was wearing this headban with some kind of Islamic writing on it. Plus she got out and began walking very aggressively, stomping and swinging her arms back and forth with a very arrogant and miltant attitude in her bearing.

She scared everybody in the bank and she knew it. Then I ran into her another time at the big grocery store, with her sons driving a brand new van, wearing the same militant head ban. We were in the produce section. I glanced over the fruit stand and looked into her eyes… We locked for a second eye to eye, we housewives both with sons…one of the green valleys and mountains and the other from ancient deserts and Bible stories…I looked into the eyes to see the soul and felt darkness and coldness.

Is this the way to treat natives in their own country??? What the heck is going on?? Where is Good Neighbor???
