do you not think your post is offensive? to incite Muslims? please be nice:)
Incite Muslims you say? What is worse, making fun of their dress or wearing bombs underneath and blowing up innocent men women and children. Blowing up subways, buses filled with children, airplanes filled with innocent people is NOT offensive?
Again, as it was stated, the burka is more cultural than religious. Why are these people moving into the West? Because they cant make a living in their Muslim led countries. They should then abandon their backward ways of living that puts women way below men.
If you visit a Japanese family in Japan that is in their culture to take off their shoes when they enter their homes, don’t you think it would be offensive to the Japanese host if you insisted in wearing mud filled army boots and walk into their house? Nobody is forcing them to come to the West. They come of their own free will.
Can you wear a crucifix around your neck in Saudi Arabia? Is there a Cathedral of St. so & so anywhere i Saudi Arabia?
They are free to practice their religion as there are hundreds if not thousands of mosques but to insist they they be allowed to cover their faces and not be recognized, to insist that they want to wear their burkas when they have their picture taken upon getting a drivers license, to insist that they be allowed to go wherever they wish and to impose their cultural customs in the West, then I have this to say to them. GO BACK HOME…

Besides, talk about being inciting. Didn’t you see the pictures of all those people in Muslim countries rejoicing, laughing, celebrating, at the destruction of the twin towers?

It should be banned, along with the niqab (face veil), because it should be against the law to conceal one’s face in public.

Actually, I thought it was against the law in the U.S. Can you really walk around in a mall wearing a ski mask?

To me, banning it doesn’t need to have anything to do with religion.

If it is I can’t see any cop trying to enforce and get hit with civil rights violation lawsuits… It would take express political activism like the anti body armor laws or laws designed to check for immigration paper work to get cops not to ignore any veil laws like they ignore open containers if the wine bottle stays in a paper bag.

Having to wear the Burka is a far bigger civil rights violation compared to a law enforcement officer being charged for asking about its use.

But were there such a ban, the law would no doubt include a provision preventing anyone from suing law enforcement about it.

When I walk into my Credit Union, there is a sign saying “PLEASE REMOVE SUN GLASSES AND HATS”.

I simply comply. Ya know why? Because it’s a reasonable request.

It was the year following 9/11, Jharek…and she was wearing a emerald green headband…saw her those times, and then never again…so she did indeed provoke and upset people.

we have Muslims 10 blocks from my house…there is a bit of opening up…it goes slow…but I hope these people are free to talk openly to citizens here…I met one Muslima across town who drives a taxi…and I asked her if they OK’d her to live outside the community and she nodded yes…had gone to a Catholic Mass and noticed the happiness and love Christians have…I do want to visit some day with the community by my house…but wonder how free women have to talk…we are getting things in news every day about more and more unrest and Americans upset with all the building of mosques, the presence of the Muslim brotherhood students all over the country on the campuses who are anti-Jewish and frightening native students into silence…this is not right.

The Burka is there to protect the woman from the eyes of the lustful men, from those men whom cannot control themselves…
Not only does that speak low of the general male population in those cultures, but rape still occurs there. Worse yet, the rape victim is made to be the criminal, and is thereby buried chest deep and stoned to death.

What’s wrong with these people??? :banghead:

This is very true. An argument I’ve used before. However, keep in mind that Sam is a very devout person that is just trying to explain things.

The Burka is against Human rights.
1- against women: It’s like you have to dress up all in Black, from you neck till ur boots, and don’t forget you hands too!
Imagine your dressed like that in a country where the temperature is at minimum 40 degrees!!!

2- against all human: It’s Bad for your eyes!!!

I wonder how muslim “men” would feel if they had to cover their eyes, seeing as how the burqa and all that clothing is to protect the women from lustful muslim “men”. Perhaps allah should have just made muslim men blind and saved women the inconvenience of wearing that kind of clothing in the sweltering heat of all those backward muslim countries.

Remember, for most Americans, 40 degrees is just above freezing. You should use the C to indicate celcius and over 100 degrees farenheit. 🙂

Burkas and other oversized garments (such as overcoats worn over ordinary clothing) can conceal explosives that can be used in terrorist attacks. They have even been worn by men to effect a terrorist act. This is just a FACT.

I would think that thoughtful Muslims would reject the Burka as a symbol that they reject terrorism. But they don’t. So what does THAT mean?

We already know that the Burka is not religious, but instead cultural. It’s not in the Koran. So this is NOT about religion. As such, it is not PROTECTED by any law regarding religious freedom.

I submit that people should be free to demonstrate their cultural views. But persons wearing Burkas should not be free to go anywhere that large numbers of people are, to protect such people from acts of terrorism. This includes airplanes but also includes many other places. People who wear the Burka CHOOSE to wear the Burka, and that’s fine. That doesn’t mean that they are free to populate places where there are large numbers of people, where their garment could conceal a bomb.
You can hide a bomb in your jacket, underwear, shoes and many other places. Point being, your argument is weak at best. You are just trying to hide your dislike for Islam in general. You say the Burka is not in the Koran, neither is immaculate conception.

I do believe you are wrong there.

the doctrine of the immaculate conception is neither Biblical nor necessary. Jesus was miraculously conceived inside Mary, who was a virgin at the time. That is the Biblical concept of the virgin birth. The Bible does not even hint that there was anything significant about Mary’s conception.

I’m not sure what distinction you are making but check out Surah 3:40-47.
Code:
Mary and Jesus
3:42] The angels said, "O Mary, GOD has chosen you and purified you. He has chosen you from all the women.
[3:43] “O Mary, you shall submit to your Lord, and prostrate and bow down with those who bow down.”
[3:44] This is news from the past that we reveal to you. You were not there when they drew their raffles to select Mary’s guardian. You were not present when they argued with one another.
[3:45] The angels said, "O Mary, GOD gives you good news: a Word from Him whose name is `The Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary. He will be prominent in this life and in the Hereafter, and one of those closest to Me.’
[3:46] “He will speak to the people from the crib, as well as an adult; he will be one of the righteous.”
[3:47] She said, “My Lord, how can I have a son, when no man has touched me?” He said, "GOD thus creates whatever He wills. To have anything done, He simply says to it, `Be,’ and it is.

I have no dislike for Islam, so your unwarranted assumption is incorrect.

I do oppose oppression. The Burka is symbolic of oppression of women. It is not a religious symbol despite the fact that some may wish to portray it as such.

Muslims know that white reflects sunlight and is easier to wear…the men can. So the black clothes are not only demeaning to a woman’s natural sense towards beauty, but it is also oppressive in the heat…

The Middle Eastern clothing in general does protect people from the sun. But women are unduly oppressed…
