A working group of the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) has published a document criticizing surrogacy as a “frontal assault on fundamental shared EU values.”
“The crucial question in law is whether we want to establish a society in which children are produced and sold like products, and whether we are aware of the consequences for the way in which we think of them, as well as for the resultant human and social relations,” the document concluded.

Criticism is a good first step. One prays that some of them will get really brave and condemn it.

Children began to be thought of as products or commodities back when the Church’s position on artificial contraception was widely rejected. It was nearly inevitable that in breaking the link between children and sex, and between sex and marriage, children would ultimate be the losers, optional products to be acquired or rejected, bought or sold. It has now progressed to surrogacy and IVF.
