yes, in america, our youth is heavily influenced by hollywood and the music industry.

in hollywood, they give the impression that you are not cool if you are religious or republican for that matter.

in europe, i am not sure what led to their culture becoming so secular and religion declining.

Please do not equate religion with republican party, they are opposites, using Right to Life for own mainting wealth/control political purposes. Even the Catholic appointees to the Supreme Court have voted almost 100% against individuals, for big money/business

In Europe, the problem has been the same as in the world: Globalization, to obsolete morals, religion, traditions, ethnicity for biggest money control of everything.

tony, i think you misunderstood my statement. i said in hollywood you are not considered “cool” if you are relgious or a republican. they are two categories. the hollywood actors who are republicans are vastly outnumbered by the liberals in the industry. some of them have probably been turned down for roles because of their political beliefs - if they supported the bush administration for example.

i recently went to hear jim caviezel speak who is catholic and portrayed Jesus in mel gibson’s “Passion” movie and he said how hard it is to be a working actor in hollywood and remain a faithful christian because you are surrounded by so many people who lead a secular life. he has remained a devout catholic and has not allowed the hollywood culture to cause him to stray from his faith.

in hollywood, the culture is pretty much where they want to live by their own rules and can do what they want.

I recently posted that it appears that in many once staunchly Catholic European countries, Catholicism has been pretty much abandoned to a great degree. .

Catholicism in Europe hasn’t been “abandoned” so much as taken for granted, which is just as bad.

I lived in Rome for six months two years ago, and went to sparsely-attended Masses in Italian and in English in the downtown churches. European towns have churches (beautiful ones as we all know) within a stone’s throw of each other, and driving out in the country one sees roadside shrines. Even in the 1950’s there was an option for a St. Christopher horn button on new Volkswagens. Catholicism is EVERYWHERE there, and the new Europeans see it as a static non-necessity.

There is a general attitude that prevails consisting of " You don’t have to go to church to be a good person." My cousins who live two hours south of Rome are good people, and their daily behavior shines above most of my friends’, but did not go to Mass with me on Easter Sunday with their children. They said “Oh, how nice! You’re going to Mass…” and that was it.

There has to be a change NOW. The Europeans sit around and talk about the Muslims for their exponential growth in Europe and bemoan the loss off their (Catholic) culture, while brith rates for Western Europe (among Europeans) are the lowest in the industrialized world. Without more children, brought up in the Catholic faith, European Catholicism will be like another Roman ruin.

And Italy has the most negative reproduction rate in the world, as I recall. True Italians, and the rich Culture are becoming obsolete, and on verge of extinction. But “The Gates of Hell shall not prevail”.

Why did your cousins and Italian friends abandon the Roman Catholic awesome Culture? :crying: Into *new age * Own ideas on priorities? Has been proven since Human Kind began that it does not work, leads to doom. ‘No future in Me’. I’m boring, to boot!

Indeed! I am studying in Stuttgart, Germany right now, and the Catholic churches here scarcely look Catholic! There are also numerous errors and abuses in the Masses!

Europe needs our prayers for reversion!

Bayern!? I LOVE Bayern. I only wish Baden-Wurttemberg was Bayern. Like the Pope, my heart beats Bayern.

New Age ideas are fail.

One of the churches near me was an assembly room with an “altar” and a tabernacle, and some chairs. I was disappointed. They need to go back to the way they used to build their churches, a few hundred years ago!

The European mentality of attending Mass is comepletely different from the North American one. The best we can do is pray for the renewal for the Church in Europe…and for reversal of their near-negative birth rates as well.

What was the Mass Like? Too modern?

The Catholic Church in the USa is Booming: Fastest growing in Numbers in the USA annually: .57 % growth on 68 Million 2007 (National Councl of Churches, Feb Annual Detailed stats on each denomination) All Christian sects declined slightly except RC, Assembly, and Jehovas.

It is Traditionalism that is booming wordwide, every way. 98% of Orders of Sisters that are growing are ‘Traditonal’, as is Our fastest growing in USA Diocese, Arlington Va Diocese of Northern VA. We are growing 30% every decade, for decades.
Very worldwide EWTN is the reason I and friends came back to the Church and have grown to love it. It is very traditonal, and the reason the Church is growing wordwide.
A key way in bringing people to the Church is Living Ours: exemplifying. You certainly did when others drove you to Mass in Italy.

I do not know the answers to your questions because it is not my place to ask such things among my extended family. I am a relative, not a priest. Nor do I feel that you must know the reasons behind the actions of people you do not know.

And please do not come to judgement of my relatives by assuming they “haven’t gone to Confession in so long.” We don’t know the whole of their actions, nor their hearts. Only Christ knows these things. It is better to pray for people than to judge.

European liberalism is perhaps the most self-destructive in the world. Since the end of the Cold War, Western Europe has gone from complacency to apathy to self-annihilation. America will probably have to bail it out, again, someday. I truly believe Islam will conquer it from within.

Two things have killed European Christianity.

1. Europe being used as the world’s battleground in two world wars.
2. American materialism and cultural imperialism vis-a-vis either Protestant frugality and/or Catholic popular devotion.
