Bless you Mia, at your time of loss, and may St. Francis look over your dear cat.
Sorry, I don’t buy it… and since it hurts no one to do so, I will continue to believe that they do have souls and that I will see them when I get to heaven.Bella- They have souls, but not like humans have souls. They don’t go to heaven or hell. They cannot sin. They have life on earth and that’s it.
Nobody here is saying that they don’t have souls. They have mortal animal souls. Furthermore, this has nothing to do with whether or not they could be recreated at the end of time for us to be with. They simply don’t have immortal souls like humans, angels, and demons is all.Sorry, I don’t buy it… and since it hurts no one to do so, I will continue to believe that they do have souls and that I will see them when I get to heaven.
There is simply no reason for me to believe otherwise.

Of course you did the right thing. We are stewards of the animals in our life. It is our responsibility to prevent needless suffering and harm if we can.I have recently been faced with choosing to euthanize my cat or wait and let the cat starve itself to death. I debated with myself about the best thing to do. Is it morally right to play God and choose when the cat will die? Or is it worse to let the cat suffer a death of starvation when it could be ended? I chose to have him euthanized because I was worried he would pass away while I was at work and my other cat would start cleaning him or something and get himslef sick. But now I feel horrible. What do u think the best thing to do would be?
2415 The seventh commandment enjoins respect for the integrity of creation. Animals, like plants and inanimate beings, are by nature destined for the common good of past, present, and future humanity.[194] Use of the mineral, vegetable, and animal resources of the universe cannot be divorced from respect for moral imperatives. Man’s dominion over inanimate and other living beings granted by the Creator is not absolute; it is limited by concern for the quality of life of his neighbor, including generations to come; it requires a religious respect for the integrity of creation.[195]Respect for the integrity of creation
Having personally treated, diagnosed and eventually euthanized several hundred animals in my veterinary career, I’d have to say this is the most difficult decision we may have to make for our pets.OP, Please dont be offended or overly grieved , but i disagree with your choice .
. I think you always try to sustain life. Life even a suffering life is still life and precious to God.
Wow another Rattie PersonI dont’ know if anyone can every say 100% either way if an animal has a soul or not, beleiving either way I dont think will end up with us getting in trouble from God.
I had to have one of my pet rats PTS. I thank God for my ratties everyday, and I know their lives on earth may be all they have. But if I get to heaven and find them there, then fantastic.
But God gave us soverigenty over animals and I think the willful cause of their suffering is very serious. Torturing animals is usually a percurser to homicidal behaviour.
Bella, there is actually a theological danger in believing that an animal has a soul like a human being–the danger is in either elevating an animal to the ontological status of human, or in denigrating the human to the status of an animal.Sorry, I don’t buy it… and since it hurts no one to do so, I will continue to believe that they do have souls and that I will see them when I get to heaven.

Uh…no that’s not really true at all. People don’t have spouses in heaven for one. Spouses seem like a ‘good’ on earth. Also our positions of prominence won’t carry over, though they can be used for good. We can’t take treasured family heirlooms, even rosaries or wedding rings. And our best friends or closes relatives don’t get to be in heaven unless their are of the right disposition - no matter how good they were to us.Remeber anything you had that was good here on Earth. You don’t loose in Heaven.
haha, yeah you’re right, but to be fair half the posts are from Nov. 20th this year and on.This is a 3 1/2 year old thread…
DittoI just think it’s unkind in the extreme for people to tell someone after he or she has lost a pet, “Oh well, you’ll not see your pet again in heaven. He had no soul and here’s why, blah blah blah.”
What benefit does that serve, especially since, despite their overconfidence, such speakers can’t know that for sure?
