Hi, I am conflicted as to what to do with my dog. I actually have two dogs, Millie and Hershey (sisters), they are 5 1/2 years old. Millie has been diagnosed with Lupus. She was suffering, her skin would itch constantly, and her eyes would water, she would get sores and bleed. But it is controllable with medication. She still scratches, not as much though. She does not look the same, hair missing, dried out skin, stomach black…but that is just physical. The medication makes her hungrier than before, and she will not hesitate to jump onto the counter or table to eat our food! But she is a very sweet dog, we love her dearly. My problem is, we are in a bit of financial difficulty. We do not have medical insurance for my family, nor do we have the dogs shots up to date, and we haven’t been able to give them heartworm medication (in the state of Texas, this is very much needed). Well, the medication to control the Lupus is about $50+/month. They are both in need of heartworm testing as well (another expense)…I know some people do euthanize their pets when they have financial difficulties. But I also know we made a commitment when we adopted the dogs to care for them…I feel like I would be just taking the easy way out if we decided to euthanize. But I also feel that we should save where we can so we can afford medical insurance (and dental) for our family. Is this wrong? I have been worrying and praying over this…
