Evangelical intellectuals and gk chesterson

Recently I have listened to radio programs were James Dobson and a second program were Dennis Rainey quoted gk chesterson I found it very interesting and wonder if they really know who he is

I haven’t read Chesterton in many years but, if I remember correctly, his Catholicism doesn’t feature very prominently in his books, does it?

If so, I would probably treat him like I treat Glenn Beck. Agree with him on politics and culture, hit the fast forward button as soon as he starts talking about religion.

I would suggest that it is likely that not only have you not read Chesterton in many years, you never read him in much depth or breadth.

Most of us aren’t, but GKC is in spades.

Fr. Ronald Knox, yes. An Anglican priest, who converted and was ordained. A Sherlockian scholar. A translator of the Bible. A mystery story writer. A great wit. And a good apologist. And had some interesting brothers.

Arnold Lunn is oddly unknown to a lot of RCs. A shame. Look for him at wiki. Fascinating, in his prime.

Just as anything I would write would be heavily influenced by Protestant theology, but I wouldn’t write “…and this Protestantism says this, and Protestantism does that”.

In my experience, Chesterton didn’t, either.

And even if I’m wrong and every single page Chesterton wrote was about nothing but how wonderful the Catholic Church is, that’s still no excuse for the Catholic poster to be rude about it, especially when such a response was unprovoked in any way.

OK. I’ll bite: How did my post “beg for” his childish, rude response?

Why wouldn’t I know about Chesterton? We Protestants do read books, you know. In fact, the OP is predicated on the premise that *so many Protestants *read Chesterton that it’s surprising, for some reason, to Catholics.
