Not sure if this is the right place…

Firstly happy New Year and hope you all had a Merry Christmas!

So…I’m becoming more and more certain that I want to convert to Catholicism. In the meantime I had agree to go to a New Word Alive event next year with the evangelical church I went too. Those events where there is lots if preaching and singing. Is it considered OK for a Catholic to go to see events or are they no nos?

Just curious…🙂

There is no prohibition against Catholics attending such an event. You must be aware, however, of the very strong possibility of hearing unorthodox teaching.

This. ^ It’s not the best idea for Catholics to attend events like these. And as you immerse yourself more in Catholic faith and teaching, you will probably have no desire to do so.

Yes…there is a lot of preaching and singing…and a lot of “amen”,“hallelujah”…and “praise the Lord” as well…everyone is hyped up and it feels great to be with other like minded Christians…and there is nothing wrong with that…I used to be a Pentecostal and know the feeling…problem is you may find yourself being swept up in all the excitement and start to question if you really want to become Catholic…then when you come back to earth you might find you are more confused than ever…it happens…if you are only thinking that you might want to convert to Catholicism at this time you might end up throwing the baby out with the bath water…just be aware of that.🙂

First of all, it is certainly not a sin for you to attend. You are not a Catholic yet, and, in general the Catholic church respects the worship which non-Catholics give to God and any teaching which contains some truth.

It does depend a bit on the nature of any “commitment” you have made. If other people have made plans depending on your attendance, and not attending would cause them inconvenience or expense, then you should follow through or compensate them.

There is no rush for you to join the Catholic church and/or break ties with your old fellowship. Keep discerning and discuss RCIA with your local parish.

On the other hand, if you just don’t want to go, and you can do so without inconveniencing anyone else, then don’t go. 🙂
