Oh really!!! Well if YOOOU had a “diserning” spirit, you would not be a Protestant. That is one advantage I have over YOU.

Both of our arguments are equally valid. Guess we’re at a stalemate, huh?
Which is the best a non-Catholic can hope to get with a knowledgeable Catholic and the worst that said Catholic can get vs an n-C.

Even John Paul ll make a remark years ago that he could not understand why the United States (a Protestant country) was so sucessfull and not Catholic countries.
Do you have the actual quote? Does material “success” get you to heaven?

Alfie:
Marty Minto would argue with Catholics who made statements about the Catholic Church (statements that are similar to what you like to make) .
Marty Mentos?! Again?!:rotfl: The dreaded Marty Minto reference.

NOPE!

But, I am not backing down from my statement. I read it in my local newspaper after the Pope visited the US years ago.

I am also sticking to my original statement about the Methodist feminists who converted to Catholism. The article was in a Methodist magazine and the feminists were from Cleveland Ohio.

You know, for a second there, we were actually back on the topic of things. Oh well, guess the Nazi arguement is over. It is hell to argue with facts. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

So, since we can talk about whatever we want here…I am going to dedicate myself to converting Alfie. Kidding!!!..sort of.

But, I am still very serious Alfie. I am SO worried about all of this bad information that you are getting. Do you ever wonder about the fact that it fails over and over on this forum? Does that bother you? It should. What does it say about the people that wrote it? I would say it goes a long way to showing that they are not credible. And, if the information that you are seeking is not the truth, and you are looking for truth, you need to look somewhere else.

Might I suggest>>>>>>>>>>ROME?

Come on Alfie…swim the Tiber with us…the water is fine.

Since none of your other statements have been accurate, I’ll have to conclude, unless given evidence otherwise, that you have fabricated these things as well.

Firstly, I want to say that I love this country and I am a patriotic American BUT while you are gushing over the foundation of this country by Protestants you are forgetting that those same people were buying and selling human beings from Africa to work as slaves *and *those same people who founded this country were killing off Native American Indians.

Well thats part of it not to mention Ronald Reagan and the group of Christians who prayed 24 hours of every day asking God to bring down the Berlin wall.
Where is that article?

Headline: “Christians Praying 24 Hours of Every Day Bring Down Berlin Wall”

I consider myself an evangelical. Do you accuse me of being anti-Catholic? If you really think that the statement “some elements of pre-Reformation Catholicism are continued in Protestantism better than Catholicism” is anti-Catholic, then I don’t know how a non-Catholic can ever have a reasonable dialogue with you.Since when is an Episcopalian an Evangelical?

Yes, you’d be about the first. I never said that you are a-C, and frankly I have not had occasion to discourse with you much. To be honest, I don’t bother to read Evangelical or even n-C material much since I “reverted” to the faith. I spent too many years reading and studying that stuff to spend any more time on it now…not when there is so much to read and to refute that is more pressing.

I have even tried to watch a video series by Francis Schaeffer from long ago and had to bail because when he got to the reformation he went all wrong. I had expected him to be rational and factual, but it went rhetorical instead. I never bothered to see the rest.

Okay, so you are a “charismatic”, right? Hence the delight in the mystics like Julian of Norwich etc. Maybe you should read the life of St. Francis of Assisi or the life of St. Padre Pio.

I don’t spend much time on the stuff that you seem to find of interest, and I don’t think that your idea that Catholicism was “evangelical” before Trent means all that much.

Y’know I read that sermon of Fr. Catalamessa (several times in fact) and all I saw was a great deal of wishful thinking on the part of a great many n-C & a-Cs who will grab at any straw to say to Catholics “See! See!” when they are “seeing” through the lenses of their own agenda. It was a very good Catholic sermon…where the Gospel was proclaimed and no one else’s religion was made an issue from the pulpit.

Yeah! My sacred word. I never lie!
But you have been misled.

And although you sincerely think what you promote is true, what you promote is actually false.

Not a lie on your part per se, but still wrong.

Hmmmm anti-Catholics grabbing at any straw to prove their point no matter how weak their evidence is???..Say it isn’t so! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I am going to say something here that people really should consider. Why in the world would you read a whole truckload of stuff from a bunch of people who have made Catholic hate their doctrine? All you really need to do is take a second and read your Bible with this thought on your mind, “I am going to read this thing with a literal translation in mind, and I am going to do what it says.”

Now here is the key people. If you really read it that way…and then you follow up by living the way it tells you…you become a Roman Catholic.

Frightening, but true. This is why CM and I make our little challenge to you. Show me one Catholic teaching that cannot be supported by scripture, and we will walk out of the Church and come to yours.

So, just bring it…we’re waiting.

I think you believe the claims that you make. It’s just what I am expected to take at your word, like the statements that Catholicism was complicit with Nazism, are not just inaccurate but slanderous. Do you really think you have earned anyone’s trust here to expect us to take your “sacred” word?

Alfie:
Yeah! My sacred word. I never lie!
I know that the fine people here keep telling you that you have the best interest at heart, and I think you probably do too. But, I have a question for ya…do you really have the best interests at heart? You are the only one that knows. I just want your opinion on what you want out of this. Do you seek truth, as we all suspect, or are we all wrong and you are just here to spread contempt?

Just checking to make sure we are right about you. The reason I am asking is that some of your claims are…well…kinda wacky. :whacky: :whacky: :whacky: :whacky: :whacky:

If one makes the definitive statement that 1+1=3, even if one believes it with all one’s heart, and the intent of one’s heart is not to lie or bear false witness, regardless the statement is stilll in error.

Still, basically…dead wrong.
