No, but thank you for strengthening just what I said. šŸ‘
What?

I just showed you that the guy went with this theory and claimed that he was not infallible or authoritative. So how is this proving your point? It’s an opinion piece, not a factual piece, as you took it to be.

Just out of curiosity, at what point do the Christians realize that Jesus is not going to come back? (that is to say… if he does not… which I personally do not believe he can; being that I believe death does not = Life). Is there a time line? I know that Paul said that the time was short and that was approximately 2,000 years ago. I only ask because from my understanding, the evangelicals think that it will be in the next few years… 10 years from now… 20 years added on when the 10 doesn’t yield his return… tack on another 200, 1,000. Good thing for the Christians (of all the arguing view points) that no one REALLY believed Paul when he said time was short and to not get married was ideal… there’d be no more christians for Christ to rescue, huh?! 😊

That is the biggest problem. One can not know the time. God has not made that known to us. To try and predict the time makes one look like a real fool. God is not bound by time or space. God is all places at all times (omnipotent) sp?.
Some day the the arguing view points will disappear and all will be under the Catholic church. :grouphug:

THE COMING EVANGELICAL COLLAPSE:

Between 25 and 35% of Americans are Evangelicals. When you say they are emerging, you are talking about the ā€œProtestantā€ 20th century when evangelicals flourished. But they soon will be living in a secular and religiously antaganostic 21st century.
MILLIONS OF EVANGELICALS WILL QUIT. THOUSANDS OF MINISTRIES WILL END.
Consumer megachurches,
dying churches, and new churches whose future is fragile.
DENOMINATIONS WILL SHRINK, EVEN VANISH, WHILE FEWER AND FEWER EVANGELICAL CHURCHES WILL SURVIVE AND THRIVE.
Two of the beneficiaries will be the ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH and ORTHODOX communions. Evangelicals have been entering these churches in recent decades with more effort aimed at the conversion of evangelicals into the Roman Catholic church (in which they belong).**
Sounds like someone wants the Protestants gone :p.

Just read a huge article from the Christian Science Monitor that Evangelicals will be gone within 10 years due to the fact they are too much into their Megachurches, and they don’t teach the truth from the Word of God.
Perhaps what is being suggested is that the present iteration of ā€œprotestant evangelicalā€ will be gone. Surely, as long as there are Christians there will be evangelicals. But the evangelicals of 10 years from now may be far more Catholic and/or Orthodox in their practice. Or not… The article is nothing but a guess based on current trends. It is not provable or disprovable. It is opinion.

As a Catholic, I would not like to see the end of evangelicalism. They are our brothers and sisters in Christ, although we are not perfectly united in our doctrines, we all seek to follow Christ. I would miss their company, and their christian values. And I would fear for the souls of those who become disillusioned and abandon their faith altogether.

Peace,
Robert

2 points that this brings out… 1. when you say ā€œallā€ will be under the Catholic Church, that sounds rather sinister, to be honest. What if ā€œallā€ do not want to be under the Catholic Church. I know only a couple of Catholics… the rest of my christian friends though believe that Catholics are idolatrous and necromancers. So, they may not be happy about this declaration of yours. Perhaps they will just want to be righteous Gentiles instead. šŸ™‚ and 2. Jesus said only the Father knows the hour of the Son of Man’s return. (Mark 13:32) This kind of dashes all those trinity theories that are floating around, no? If the Son and the Spirit and the Father are 3 in 1, then they would all know… yet, Jesus makes it clear that ONLY the Father knows. So, either there are 3 Gods in the Christian view OR Jesus is NOT God and the Holy Spirit simply is referring to God’s Spirit in the same way I could say that my spirit is overjoyed in the Creator… I would not be speaking of a separate entity/person that resides in me… it would be me. šŸ™‚

Actually Isaiah supports the latter view of the Holy Spirit.
Example: Isa 63:10-11
But they rebelled, and vexed his(not the) holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.

It’s called apostasy, but there will always be true believers.

Well I am sorry you feel that is sinister. Not how It was intended. I would recomend a catholic church but I see a problem in the second part of the post.

One can not split up the trinity. The trinity is fact not fiction.
I am cirrious what flavor of Christianity do you follow that does not believ in the trinity:confused:

One needs to only look at Matt 28:19, 2Cor 13:14, and Heb 9:14 to see support for the Trinity. For further evidence of the Trinity I rec that you check out this link.

I grew up in a branch of christianity that accepted the trinity… and most christians that I know do accept it. However, that does not negate that I can see for myself that this is not supported in the Word of God. It may be able to be supported with the NT writings… but even then it is a stretch considering it requires one to throw out logic in order to accept.

It really is simple to see that logic has to be thrown out in order to accept:

Mark 13:26-27,32
And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Only the Father, the alleged first person in the trinity, knows the hour and even day of the coming of the Son of man. So, this means that the alleged 2nd person (the Son) and the alleged 3rd person (the Holy Spirit) in this holy trinity are having information withheld from them by the alleged first person, the Father. 🤷

Neither the 2nd or the 3rd can be omniscient since omniscient means to have infinite awareness and knowledge. These alleged 2 persons of the trinity cannot be fully God as we are taught to believe.

Also Numbers 23: 19, which says ā€œGod is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?ā€ rules out Jesus as being part of this holy trinity since he is man, and he lied saying that he was not going to show up somewhere and then showed up anyway… that tidbit was pointed out by one of the Catholics on this board. So, Jesus cannot be God and part of the trinity… man and lied.

It became apparent to me that many Christians ignore anything (including the Bible) that gets in the way of what they want to believe.

God made it quite clear that He is one being, not a three headed hydra or a three person anything.

Isa 46:9
Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,

Does not say ā€œusā€ … it says ā€œme.ā€ I just cannot find the sense in the claims that are made concerning the trinity. It certainly is not the same God that is spoken of in the Tanakh as He is one God… not 3 or 3 in one. šŸ™‚

First I don’t want to hijack this thread. Maybe we should start a new thread. If you still have trouble with the trinity please look at the references that I laid out. Also where does the Bible say scripture alone.

I am not sure what you are referring to in the last sentence. And I agree about hijacking the thread. If I can get around to it this evening, I will be happy to start a thread to hear your take on it as this doctrinal view seems to be pulled out of thin air, in my humble opinion. šŸ™‚

Sounds good. I would look forward to it.

If denying that Christ came in the flesh is the spirit of antichrist (biblical) then denying Christ is also god is the spirit of antichrist. This, my friend, is not good for you.

Evangelical Christianity is the fastest growing form of Christianity right now. That’s why Asia is converting so rapidly.
WRONG. According to the Christian Resource, Catholicism is the number one leading denomination in the world. There are 1.5 BILLION Catholics. There are 1 MILLION conversions alone just in Africa every year. Vocations are way up in Africa and Asia, more and more people are converting to the Catholic faith in which Jesus Christ founded, and that includes many, many Protestant ministers who realize that there is something missing, and that something is Jesus Christ and His church.

would this unlikely event please you??? As for me I’m a Presbyterian, so I would welcome Protestants back into our real (Presbyterian / reformed) churches versus the Osteen type prosperity Gospel pep rallies they call Christian worship :):)šŸ™‚

the statistics you cite are sort of misleading. First there are 1.5 billion Catholics, but to reach that number you must include Eastern & Oriental Orthodox Catholics (at this point there are perhaps less than a billion Roman rite Catholics … though the way Rome formulates its numbers, i.e. the body count method, is hardly a sound methodology … but that’s another thread topic I suppose). Secondly, when you say vocations are way up in Africa and Asia, why should this surprise anyone? Shelter, clothing, and three meals a day will pretty much ensure a steady supply of priests in the poverty stricken, third world havens of Africa and Asia.

Along with these facts it’s important to note the fastest growing sect within Christianity is the Pentecostal denomination. Not something I’m overly pleased with (since I’m Presbyterian) … but it’s a fact. Although I disagree (strongly) with Pentecostals, since I believe nothing happens without the will of God concerned, I know there is some reason God has ordained the growth of Pentecostalism in places like Africa. Perhaps the Pentecostals can sweep them in with their very emotive worship practices & we can lead them towards a firm theological foundation down the road? šŸ‘

From what I understand the number of Catholics who actually participate in their faith is pretty low (as measured by mass attendance). I’ll try to look it up but if I remember correctly it’s around 30% (catholics who attend mass regularly) in the good old USA.
In Europe it’s much lower.
