Evangelicals Will Be Extinct Within Ten Years

Just today at work we were talkin about what the Saints and Doctors of the Church say about the “Last Days” befor the Judgement. In short they say because of the false religion of the “anti-christ” people from all the denominations that are seeking the truth will flock to the Catholic Church. We just don’t know when this will be. Many Protestant/Evangelicals are converting to the Church because the Holy Spirit is leading faithful Chrictians to the truth they seek because their hearts are open now.

Just read a huge article from the Christian Science Monitor that Evangelicals will be gone within 10 years due to the fact they are too much into their Megachurches, and they don’t teach the truth from the Word of God.

ISTM they are simply too numerous to disappear soon.

That’s true, and I am. So, do you think the day is soon that Catholics of the Augsburg Confession will be reunited with our Roman Catholic brothers and sisters?

Jon

There are too many important issues still outstanding.

Just out of curiosity, at what point do the Christians realize that Jesus is not going to come back? (that is to say… if he does not… which I personally do not believe he can; being that I believe death does not = Life). Is there a time line? I know that Paul said that the time was short and that was approximately 2,000 years ago. I only ask because from my understanding, the evangelicals think that it will be in the next few years… 10 years from now… 20 years added on when the 10 doesn’t yield his return… tack on another 200, 1,000. Good thing for the Christians (of all the arguing view points) that no one REALLY believed Paul when he said time was short and to not get married was ideal… there’d be no more christians for Christ to rescue, huh?! 😊

The mechanics of it are difficult too. Since Heaven is not somewhere one can “go to” in the normal sense - whereas one could in principle go to Sirius, which is merely very very very very very far away - it is far from clear how one can “come from” Heaven. Star Trek V is all good fun, but it’s horrible as theology 🙂

I don’t believe the second Coming is going to happen. By the time it does, we will probably have evolved into apes again, if we haven’t destoyed the earth first. Maybe, if we travel to other planets, the SC will take place on them - there’s not much point in an SC to a planet that has become an over-fried crisp or an ice-covered waste. The doctrine takes too much for granted: Jesus might be visible in NY, but to be visible in Canberra (or Dunedin) as well He would have to come to both places separately - it would be physically impossible to see the SC from the US & Australia (or New Zealand) simultaneously. And that is without including Scotland & Johannesburg as well; include them, & He would have to be to so far above the surface of the earth - to be visible from all four points at once - as to be invisible from most of them; which is not much good. The NT does not, for it could not, take that sort of thing into account - the idea is based on defective geography.

From what I understand the number of Catholics who actually participate in their faith is pretty low (as measured by mass attendance). I’ll try to look it up but if I remember correctly it’s around 30% (catholics who attend mass regularly) in the good old USA.
In Europe it’s much lower.

Not long ago, it was all of ten per cent in the diocese of Rome - which is the Pope’s own diocese

I’m an atheist. I have to ask, since my username is atheist1 and not agnostic1, what makes you ask?
As an atheist, I don’t expect you to say anything good about the church. Your credibility, since you believe in nothing is er…nothing to anyone.

That would go more for liberal Protestant denominations rather than Evangelicals especially the Anabaptists. Actually what we should do as Catholics is inform the Protestants that Martin Luther was praying the rosary at his death. Luther was very "Catholic’ when he died. Many things he posted on the church were changed and he should get credit for it. He should not get credit for Lutheranism he didn’t institute. If Lutherans went back to the original Lutheranism they would see how Catholic Luther was.
I read some place that he(LUTRHER) WAS TALKING ABOUT HIS going back to the Church weeks B4 he die, sorry for the capps but its late here and I,m going to bed

Since I don’t believe in god I have no credibility? Okay…gosh that’s certainly…illogical.

Anyway, I didn’t say anything bad about your church.

the statistics you cite are sort of misleading. First there are 1.5 billion Catholics, but to reach that number you must include Eastern & Oriental Orthodox Catholics (at this point there are perhaps less than a billion Roman rite Catholics … though the way Rome formulates its numbers, i.e. the body count method, is hardly a sound methodology … but that’s another thread topic I suppose). Secondly, when you say vocations are way up in Africa and Asia, why should this surprise anyone? Shelter, clothing, and three meals a day will pretty much ensure a steady supply of priests in the poverty stricken, third world havens of Africa and Asia.

Along with these facts it’s important to note the fastest growing sect within Christianity is the Pentecostal denomination. Not something I’m overly pleased with (since I’m Presbyterian) … but it’s a fact. Although I disagree (strongly) with Pentecostals, since I believe nothing happens without the will of God concerned, I know there is some reason God has ordained the growth of Pentecostalism in places like Africa. Perhaps the Pentecostals can sweep them in with their very emotive worship practices & we can lead them towards a firm theological foundation down the road? 👍
From dying within a generation to arguing over the highest growth rate.👍

Walking point on the battlefield for our Lord, I like that.😃

The difference between Evangelicals and Catholics

The Catholics went to the hardest most canibalistic savage nations and converted the ppl to Christ.

Evangelicals go to where the Catholics are and converted ppl from the Church.

Who did the hard work?
The Catholics.

Evangelicals can only convert Catholics because it’s easier to convert a type of faith that’s already established.

NOW - i fully invite them to go to Pakistan or Saudi and the other Middle Eastern countries to convert ppl. 👍

A couple of things are going on. The original opinion piece in the liberal leaning paper the Christian Science Monitor attacked the Evangelic Church for attaching itself to the American Republican party. The author theorizes that evangelicals will lose hope once the states starting voting for same sex marriage and abortion rights are further encoded in law. He believes that many of those disaffected by losing will seek out the ritual of Catholic and Orthodox faiths as a consolation for watching society in America move away from the conservative or more fundamental churches.

On the other hand the post you quoted from is talking about the African Church specifically but in general the Church of the 10/40 window. The population which will have to evangelize Europe before the big Muslim versus secular humanist fight comes along.

I personally know folks working in Saudi Arabia and North Korea

About ten years ago - altho Catholic worship was down, the Protestant worship was down too - but even lower. 10% lower.
Not sure if those stats changed…I dont know.

I dont care - because the thing is - most folks come home to Rome eventually.
Especially because they eventually recognise their craving for the Eucharist which is Christ.

I never understood leaving the real Christ for something else. But i have seen quite a trend of reverts.
I think there are in fact more reverts than converts of the total sum of the two - but then again - there was always more Catholics to begin with.

It’s in God’s hands. He will call who He will call back.

Good for them.
How many Catholics have they converted?
Because 99% of the targetted audience is Catholics.
It would be interesting if they actually proposed to help convert Islam and communist.

And have they?
