My little grandaughter just called and must explain in class what evangelization means.

I gave her the best answer I could think of, but wondered it there were others that would be better. She is only 10 and the answer must be very short.

I told her to evangelize was to tell others about Christ and try to bring them to Christ, of course through the Catholic Church. I also said that by her loving actions and the happiness she shows others is another way. As some might ask her why she is so good etc. Actually she is like an angel.

Any other better suggestions.

You did very well my friend, and that is a very good answer. If she uses it she will do well.
You might also say that evangelism is sharing the best thing that we have and then sharing all the rest. 🙂

I just finished a book by Fr. John McCloskey and Russell Shaw called Good News Bad News. In it, they define evangelization as sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. We do that in all aspects of our lives, by the way we live, work, and relate to others. He differentiates between evangelizing and proselytizing, which involves an element of coercion or pressure.

Another way of looking at it is Evangelization is lighting a fire under Catholics so they WANT to learn their faith and then teach it to non-Catholics so the fire grows and grows
