Evangelize with adventure

I am wondering if it is selfish to want to go on an adventure such as week/month long hike, crossing an ocean, etc., and enjoy it? I have been researching quite a bit and I have a strong itch to do something crazy like a solo hike for days but I also have a strong desire to spread the faith as well. How can I do both when I notice so many people who do this appear to be non and/or anti religious?

Is there anyway to know if Jesus ever had any fun during His ministry travels?

Yes, I am a little scrupulous, sorry…

It is not wrong to enjoy God’s creation. And yes, Jesus had fun in his life. He lived as a human! He was cold, he was warm, he was hungry and sated, he cried and he laughed. I bet he particularly did a lot of laughing.

My husband goes on an adventure every 2-3 years. First it was a surprise 30th birthday trip to Singapore with me, then a missions trip to Haiti with his church, a back-country hiking trip to Peru with his cousin, and another hiking trip with his cousin to Greenland planned for this summer. You’ll notice only one of these was a “missions” trip.

He works steadily. We give of our time, talent, and treasure to our churches and our community. Neither of our consciences has any problem whatsoever with spending money on his trips. It’s not wrong to enjoy this world. It is only wrong to enjoy it in excess, which means in a way that exceeds our means, denies our responsibilities, or excludes/draws us away from God.

Maybe you have an opportunity to evangelize adventurers. I heard of a man who loved to sail competitively. He only accepted non Christians on his crew. Over time he had to keep recruiting because the crew members kept believing in Jesus after time with this guy. I have been on over sees mission trips. One involved crossing the andies mountains on horseback. Another included a side trip to a wonder of the ancient world in east Asia.

What about a walking pilgrimage like the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Walkers are not all Christian but are all searching for something.
