LGBT stands for (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and transgender). I have a friend who is a professed homosexual and Russian Orthodox. He insists that practicing homosexuality is NOT a sin, if fact, he believes ALL sexual expressions are just fine. He thinks that changing your gender is a wonderful thing, etc.
I have many gay friends on my facebook and I usually try to avoid getting sucked into debating with them, mostly to keep the peace because I would be arguing with them constantly. But also, because I am immediately labeled a bigot and a hater for calling homosexuality a sin. But I had to speak up this time and boy did I get nailed!
I don’t think it matters how gently or rhetorically you present your case, you are immediately slapped with the “bigot” title or the “hater” title. The thing is, is that I dearly love these people.
I could use some prayers for courage, wisdom, and perseverance.
Well, to begin with, a Christian who believes that homosexual sexual relations are fine is not a Christian at all - and if baptized, definitely in much need of the Holy Mystery of Repentance.
Second: homosexuality is not a sin

The use of the sexual faculty outside of matrimony or in a way close to life is a sin. All homosexual sexual relations are clearly close to life, and that is why they are sinful. The attraction in itself is not.
The true issue is that few are willing to accept that they are called to chastity and continence, perhaps for a lifetime. This is something that extends to heterosexual people as well: many life their life without ever marrying, others embrace consecrated life and take perpetual vows. Matrimony is not a
right, it is a
calling.
Also, few are willing to acknowledge that the Catholic Church is the only society that truly upholds the dignity of all, men and women, regardless of sexual orientation. The secular world, poisoned by relativism and hedonism, behaves like a parent that gives their children all they want - even things that can be dangerous or unhealthy.
Will society be considered at its best when 12-year-old girls can have abortion or a boy of 16 can have gender change without parental consent, and when marriage is redefined to include not just divorce but also multiple spouses and even polygamy? Is this the civilization we are looking forward to live in? Do we look forward to all sort of sexual immorality to be allowed and even promoted? Do we look forward to modesty and chastity and continence to be rejected as wrong or dangerous concepts?
To understand these things, two behaviors are needed: (1) to stop being defensive and (2) to stop being selfish. Unfortunately, we don’t often find them in those to whom we try to share the Good News and lead towards the Church of God. We are often rejected out of prejudice and misunderstanding, while relativism and hedonism are embraced even though they dehumanize and animalize society, leading towards that which Hobbes terms “the state of nature”. Very well, then - but all we can do is to speak our timeless teachings with simplicity and humbleness, as useless servants entrusted with a lamp or a precious coin, being willing to endure scorn, laughter, and even injury and persecution.
Because ours is an apostolate of love.
And love bears everything for the sake of the loved one.
This is the one thing that is most evident in the Crucified Christ.
