Are you suggesting that we shouldn’t think it odd that a Christian Church would not be holding services on a Sunday? (not to mention that it’s Christmas Sunday… the birth of our Savior whom we celebrate)
Because God said “Remember the Sabbath Day by keeping it Holy.” And in the NT we are told to “not forsake the gathering of ourselves together.”
Christmas falls on a Sunday approx. every 11 years. This is not a new thing… but yet this is the first year I’ve heard of Christian Churches not having services. Do you think God has issued some sort of Christmas - don’t bother going to Church even though it’s Sunday - waver? Or is it MORE likely that some people have taken the attitude of “what’s in it for me?” and having church / going to church on Christmas morning really gets in the way of the socializing & present opening? Not to mention that, as it was discussed - no one wants to man the coffee bar/ food court on the holiday?
It was Jesus who said
Mark 2:27
Jesus said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath
But this is more to the point…
Romans 14
4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
5 One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind.
6 He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who eats, does so for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who eats not, for the Lord he does not eat, and gives thanks to God.
In other words we are not to judge who celebrates what on what date or time or how they do it…
Who are you to judge the servant of God because he doesn’t celebrate this or that….
The main reason why it is bad for a Catholic to miss Sunday mass is because according to canon law it is a holy day of obligation. The sin comes from rejecting the Church’s law and has little to do with the day of the week.
Incidentally I would have to look at my references but I believe that if a Catholic attends a Midnight mass they have fulfilled their Sunday obligation… in fact I am almost sure if it….
