As Catholics, are we required to believe that Eve was literally created from Adam in some (miraculously) way? …and if so, where is this defined?
The opposing position (in my mind) would be that this account in Genesis is simply a figure to show that women were created with equal dignity… and not necessarily a literal/historical account. I really wouldn’t have much of an issue accepting it as literal (if it must be so), but I would much rather have the option of not violating fundamental physical laws, if at all possible.
